Another Dreaded Dimwitted Dodo Award Dispatched to Doltish Dummies Declaring Dhimmitude
I'm always amazed that seemingly intelligent individuals on an individual basis can morph into a mindless mob of malicious miscreants. Yet, I am presented again and again with evidence that this is so. In fact, the evidence is so overwhelming that anyone with less than a room temperature IQ could see it without it being pointed out.
The latest proof of this is Nancy Pelosi's Democratic Congress pushing another useless call for withdrawal from Iraq. I mean, its not like they haven't tried this before since taking over congress in January. In fact, they've tried it on a number of occasions in a variety of ways. which of course, reminds me that the definition of Absolute Insanity is to keep doing the same thing and expecting the results to be different.
Do the Democrats (DIMocrats?) really believe that by passing a measure to end the war in Iraq with less than an absolute veto proof majority is going to keep President Bush from vetoing any measure that passes a conference committee and is sent to the President? Or, as is far more likely, is this a political posture designed to placate the far left fringe who post at MyDD, Atrios, Daily Kos, Huffington, et cetera, et cetera, & et cetera?
So, if I read this correctly, this is indeed an effort to undermine the president by kowtowing to the far left, to slip (in Chuck Schumer's words) a pointed dagger into the heart of our troops. Let alone of course, the people of Iraq who will pay the ultimate price for the mendacious posturings of Pelosi and Reid. And for that reason, and for that reason alone, I have chosen to present the Dimwitted Dodo Award Dispatched to Doltish Dummies Declaring Dhimmitude to all 223 members of the United States House of Representatives for this egregious violation of the trust placed in them.
UPDATE: John Weidner at Random Jottings has more and it seems that the whole thing was a complete and total sham, from the git-go!
Congress could, of course, stop funding the Iraq Campaign at any moment. but that would require them to take responsibility for the results. The ice-hearted animals could care less if another Cambodia occurs, if millions of brown-skinned foreigners die, as long as the responsibility is diffused. Cowardly dogs, I spit upon you!Read the whole thing!

Thanks to people like John Kerry and Jane Fonda, we didn't have that chance.

e. nonee moose: Wake up and smell the roses. The Vietnam war was won (in spite of the traitorous democrats) and there were no American combat troops remaining in country when the democrats surrendered the victory. The only mass airlift out of the country was for the people that desired the freedom the democrats took away from them. Your head would explode if you were exposed to and accepted the truth. I suppose you accept the responsibility for the deaths and the blood of millions that you have on your hands. You can scream you had nothing to do with it but supporting those that killed millions is the same as doing the killing. Ignorance will not help you when you are judged on your actions on earth. I hope you like it hot.

If we pull of Iraq then thousands will certainly die in the violence that follows, but that violence would NEVER have the chance to occur had we not invaded Iraq in the first place. If I wind up in Hell then I'll be happy to have you all there for company.

It really breaks my heart GMann.
These dimwits are Vietnamizing Iraq...they are turning it into something it is not. Soon enough the troops will pay the price for this too. Just like they did in Vietnam.
Darnit.

moose, the use of "never" is more than a little worrisome. The events that have occurred must always be compared to what would likely have happened had we done otherwise. Your implication that things would have gone swimmingly if we had not gone into Iraq strikes me as unlikely. We would have had different problems, but still problems.
It is precisely this habit of looking at only one side of the balance sheet that has made discussion with those opposed to the war difficult from the start.
To consider only the current problems in the ME one has to go back 200 years, and variations of Islamic hegemony of course go back even farther. From 1979 through 2000, most observers thought that problems were mixed but generally worsening. We had hoped to outrun those problems with diplomacy, trade, and pressure. 9-11 was not "merely" the death of 3000 people and some humiliation for the US. There were also 9,000,000 jobs lost worldwide, and every indication that this was not a one-off event, but an escalation. The last six years have confirmed this. The first thing we conclude from such things is that the status quo will no longer do.
So into this messy, fluid, and ambiguous situation the US considers various courses of action. All of them carry enormous risks and costs, and from the outset - from the very beginning, mind you - we knew that no successes would be without consequences. Everything we might do would infuriate and antagonise someone in the world.
Thus, when one course is chosen, a criticism which is no more than "Holy Cow, this is expensive, people have died, and we have really alienated some people" moves me not at all. That criticism was going to apply to anything we did.
If you wish to make a case that we should have invaded Iran or Saudi Arabia instead, or suggest that even with the complete collapse of sanctions we would still have been better off I would be willing to listen and consider. But to blithely wave the hand to say "this never would have happened if we hadn't invaded Iraq" brands you as a person who would rather score points than solve problems.

If you want a really insulting award, name it after something even worse--the Democrats. But, that would be like giving Oscar awards to only people named Oscar.
