Evocation
......GM Roper
Somewhere, in the fog, the sea brings forth a memory,
of friendships, of loves and laughter.
But, like the sea with fog hiding ships,
those memories are mixed, choppy and tossed.
sharp and clear at first, gradually fading as distance
increases and the fog slowly, irresolutely but steadily
covers the vision until at last,
in the dark
it is
gone,
and
I
am
alone!

Beautiful! Just beautiful!
And I can SO relate to this. I love the ocean because it draws out these very feelings and memories, some bad but most good. There is nothing like being on a foggy beach deep in thought. Relaxing, releasing, rejuvenating.

My mom can remember everything from her childhood perfectly but can't remember what you told her two minutes ago.

Prose is to truth as poetry is to wisdom. Good work.

Yikes! Remind me to never again antagonize the baseball
gods by making stupid predictions.

GMan, that's beautiful! I really liked it, which is saying something, 'cause half the time I just can't "get" poetry *sigh*
Very nice!

In terms of the mechanics, the way you've laid out the lines "moves" like a ship (or a memory or ...?) slipping away (or into) a fog. Since you coerce us (in the best sense) into joining, or at least witnessing, you in your aloneness, you both surrender to and defy this state. In this exclamation point is important and well chosen.
By George, I think he's got it!

Nice, comfortable and retrospective words from a non-surface, deep thinking - real - gentleman.
