Following Al Gore's Example on Carbon Offsets - Cheat
Al Gore has justified his home's high energy consumption by claiming that he purchases "carbon offsets" to make him "carbon neutral." Can you guess who receives the money that Gore pays for the carbon offsets? Why, it's himself! How "convenient."
As the controversy over global warming doomsayer Al Gore's voracious energy-eater mansion rolls on, there's an angle I think merits deeper investigation than it is currently getting. While much of the focus has been on whether or not Gore is an environmental hypocrite, the story has raised the profile of the role of "carbon offsets" in achieving a "greener," more environmentally friendly world. In its original story, The Tennessean reported that Gore buys "carbon offsets" to compensate for his home's use of energy from carbon-based fuels. So far, so good. But how Gore buys his "carbon offsets," as revealed by The Tennessean raises serious questions. According to the newspaper's report, Gore buys his carbon offsets through Generation Investment Management:
Gore helped found Generation Investment Management, through which he and others pay for offsets. ...In other words, he "buys" his "carbon offsets" from himself, through a transaction designed to boost his own investments and return a profit to himself. To be blunt, Gore doesn't buy "carbon offsets" through Generation Investment Management - he buys stocks.
I hereby declare myself carbon neutral because I gave myself money from an ATM today. If it works for Gore, then it works for me.
If Al Gore refers to me as a global warming denier, then I'll just refer to him as a global warming deceiver.

How convenient that Al Gore's "good works" redound to his profit.

Woody, I'm looking at the time of your comment and I'm assuming you're alright. Ain't you in that next of the woods that the twisters ripped through in Alabama? Thought I remembered you once saying yer from 'bama. Hope you and loved ones are safe.

ah...that's "neck of the woods"..

Thank you, Rob. That's very nice. That storm cell swept across Alabama and Georgia, but members of my family and I are north of the center of the damage. We just had strong winds, lightning, etc., but limbs were coming down, so I had to go outside to see if there was roof damage. One time a limb fell on my daughter's car, which gave it a new shape. I should have cut down every pine tree around when we moved into this house. I'm going to get rid of them this summer. Thanks for your concern.

I read Bill Hobbs occasionally as I'm a native of Tennessee and he is the best conservative Tennessee blogger. (Glenn Reynolds is more national/international.) Hobbs is much hated by Tennessee liberals.
Excellent post by Hobbs. It's quite funny to read the comments, at Hobbs and other similar blogs, and see how the Gorists twist and turn trying to defend Gore's actions. L. Ron Hubbard would love to have such a dedicated, blind-faith following.
BTW - have you heard, Mars is experiencing global warming which indicates the sun may be causing global warming, not humans.

I think that if planting trees gives an offset then we should just plant more trees and be done with the whole damned thing.
I am carbon neutral because I sent the electric company exactly the same amount that was on the bill they sent me so I am at a zero balance.

Good point, Big Dog. Sort of "passing the buck" to the utility company.
I don't want the Left to wait for me to start offsetting the carbon. They can go ahead and plant all the trees that they want and can turn off their music amplifiers to save the Earth.

Big Dog - LOL funny. I'm going to borrow that line if it's OK.

Are you retarded? It doesn't prove anything of the sort. Venus, now there's another story. Almost all CO2. I wonder if Dad here wants his children to be stupid? Luckily, most kids reject therie parents ignorance in many areas so there's hope.
