McCain for President? ... Not on your life!
I originally posted this little bon-mot on March 11, 2005. Given recent developments, it seems worth reposting. Mark Tapscott writes:
With a 3-3 vote featuring Democrat commissioners supporting the silencing of political speech against congressional incumbents and Republican commissioners in favoring of allowing it, the Federal Elections Commission has now made it official - As required by the McCain-Feingold Bipartisan Campaign Finance Reform Act of 2002, there can be no paid political broadcast ads criticizing incumbent Members of Congress for the two months prior to the Nov. 7 election.Which of course reminded me of the post I posted over a year and five months ago.
[...]
I say it again - if the Republican Party nominates Sen. John McCain, R-AZ, for president in 2008 without his official apology for and repudiation of McCain-Feingold, plus introduction of legislation to repeal that monstrous outrage against the First Amendment, no conservative, libertarian or honest liberal can support him for the White House.
I've signed on to this BLOGOSPHERE LETTER to the F.E.C. on regulation of political blogs.Hopefully, this is not going to be necessary, but since when have bureaucrats EVER not wanted more power? Not only do they want to tell you what you can, as an amateur journalist (or even a professional journalist) write about, they will soon tell you what you are REQUIRED to write about. Dinging the First Amendment is a slippery slope and McCain-Feingold is the grease on that slope.
If you are a blogger, sign, if you are a reader of bloggs, write to them and let them know how you feel about this. If you don't have a dog in this hunt, write them anyway. It is your freedom after-all.
The day John McCain openly runs for President will be the day I'll support ACBMWICA - Anybody Conservative But McCain Who Isn't Conservative Anyway.
Posted by GM Roper at August 30, 2006 05:58 AM | TrackBackI thank John McCain for his military service to this great nation.
I curse John "Keating 5" McCain for striping me of my 1st Amendment rights in his role as a corrupt politician. (Hmmm ... "corrupt politician - that's redundant, isn't it?).
If John McCain runs for President, I will work my fingers to the bone for anyone who opposes him ... anyone. There are places here in Arizona that if John McCain were to show up, he'd probably be shot on sight. Not by moonbat Dimocrats, but by Republicans.
My only advice to John McCain is to just die, and make this a better country in which to live.

I'll actively work against McCain also. After his disrespectful comments that the American worker couldn't pick lettuce for $50 an hour and his comments regarding freedom of speech, he has clearly shown that his is not fit to represent or lead the American people.

I've always said McCain was a sheep in wolf's clothing. He thinks that he's playing the middle ground to appeal to everyone, but the fact is that politics in general has moved to the left over recent decades and "centrist" ground now used to be firmly liberal territory. I will fight him too. He obviously does not have our interests at heart when clearly his intent is to preserve the status quo of incumbent politicians - one of which he happens to be.
