Subway Attack Foiled... By Al Qaeda
According to the latest issue of Time online a terrorist plot (in 2003) was foiled 45 days short of execution time by a direct order of OBL's number two man:
Al-Qaeda terrorists came within 45 days of attacking the New York subway system with a lethal gas similar to that used in Nazi death camps. They were stopped not by any intelligence breakthrough, but by an order from Osama bin Laden's deputy, Ayman Zawahiri. And the U.S. learned of the plot from a CIA mole inside al-Qaeda. These are some of the more startling revelations by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Ron Suskind, whose new book The One Percent Doctrine is excerpted in the forthcoming issue of TIME. It will appear on Time.com early Sunday morning.Read the whole thing.
Hydrogen Cyanide is a fatal gas. The discovery of plans for a device to distribute the gas was discovered on a computer in Saudi Arabia that belonged to a "Bahraini jihadist captured in Saudi Arabia early in 2003." The Times also makes mention of a CIA Mole in al Qaeda (thanks Times for revealing so damned much information) codenamed Ali (hmm, if it's a CIA undercover operative, isn't the Times guilty of Outing?).
I'm getting really sick of all the leftoids in this world who continue to believe that there is no war on islamofascism/terrorism. Had this attack been launched, would the lefties be demanding retribution, or would they wonder "...why they hate us so?" I suspect the latter. Damn them, damn them all.

They may imagine that they are immune to the espionage laws, but they are not. They can be prosecuted quite severely for revealing classified information, and they should be.

Actually, more interesting than the by now boring release of secrets by the times, is why Zawahiri canceled the plot.
My gues... he hopes for a defeat of Republicans - he doesn't want to awaken the recumbent tiger until it has marshmallows in its head - again - like it did under Clinton.
So once they get a leftist internationalist bozo in charge, or a Democrat house of representatives who can tie the executive in knots with all sorts of investigations and perhaps an impeachement... then, Al Qaeda will strike.
They may be evil, but they aren't dummies. They learned the lesson on 9-11 that it isn't wise to attack us when we have someone with cojones in charge, just like they learned the lesson, many times, in the 1990s that when you have someone whose cojones are in his head instead of where they belong, we can be attacked and defeated.

John, just like the Iranians knew with our embassy hostages whom they had held for over a year with Carter in charge but released within minutes of Reagan being sworn in. The Russians knew not to get too cute, also.
Strength enforces peace. Weakness invites conflict.

It would have been stupid to go through with the attack. I might have strengthened the resolve of American citizens for the Iraq war. That was the last thing they wanted.
