Match the Candidates to Your Views
Answer the twenty-four questions from VAJoe in the following link to find the 2008 presidential candidate who best aligns with your beliefs:
When I did this, it came up with a choice that I had not made in my own mind, so it might have flaws or it might mean that some candidates will say whatever it takes to get elected, even if what they do is different. Hint: It wasn't Hillary Clinton.

As of this writing, these are the top ten composite candidates, derived from all answers from everyone who has taken the poll. The results lead me to believe that liberals have nothing better to do all day than to take this poll over and over or that some Democratic campaign workers are putting in overtime. It looks more like Barbra Streisand's America than the one that I know.
Delaware Senator Joseph Biden (D) - 43.48%
Illinois Senator Barack Obama (D) - 41.30%
Connecticut Senator Christopher Dodd (D) - 36.96%
Former North Carolina Senator John Edwards (D) - 36.96%
New York Senator Hillary Clinton (D) - 34.78%
Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R) - 34.78%
New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson (D) - 34.78%
Businessman John Cox (R) - 32.61%
Former Alaska Senator Mike Gravel (D) - 30.43%
Arizona Senator John McCain (R) - 28.26%
Now, here are the ten most matched candidates:
Gravel - 13.67%
Tommy Thompson - 12.15%
Romney - 11.50%
Giuliani - 10.97%
Kucinich - 10.14%
Biden - 6.36%
Clinton - 4.61%
Cox - 4.55%
Obama - 4.12%
Hunter - 3.78%
Lastly, these are the top five issues, as voted. I can think of some broad categories that they left off, like the War on Terror, Taxes, Fiscal Restraint, and Chinese Relations--especially since they banned this blog per GM's last post.
Iraq Surge
Abortion
Free Trade
Embryonic Stem Cell Research
Patriot Act

The candidate I support is Duncan Hunter. My top four candidates by the poll were Romney, Hunter, Thompson, and Tancredo, which isn't too far off (I'm more favorable to Guilliani than the poll indicated and not particularly supportive of Romney).
What was dramatic in the numbers was the huge percentage gap between the lowest Republican (Huckabee at 60.77%) and the highest Democrat (Richardson at 36.92%). That is, my least favorite Republican was 24% higher than my most compatible Democrat.
Unless something dramatically changes, looks like I'll have to look for the "R" (whoever it is) and fill in the circle (or whatever system they decide on come Nov '08, but that's another tale).

I had to take the test again, because I couldn't remember exactly how it came out the first time, but here is the latest result for me.
Fred Thompson (R) - 99.15% match
Duncan Hunter (R) - 93.22%
Tom Tancredo (R) - 92.37%
Mitt Romney (R) - 86.44%
Yet, I am lukewarm on Thompson and think that our answers match better than our philosophies really do.

Partial explanation: They are trying to match you with a track record, not a current campaign. This matchup is more appropriate for the 2004 or 2000 election.
