GM Interviews Cindy Sheehan
Cindy Sheehan famously retired from participating in the anti-war movement on May 28, 2007 announcing her decision on her Daily Kos Diary:
I have endured a lot of smear and hatred since Casey was killed and especially since I became the so-called "Face" of the American anti-war movement. Especially since I renounced any tie I have remaining with the Democratic Party, I have been further trashed on such "liberal blogs" as the Democratic Underground. Being called an "attention whore" and being told "good riddance" are some of the more milder rebukes.Of course, I doubt that she was given a lot of "smear and hatred" until she became the "so-called 'Face' of the American anti-war movement" but that's another story. A short six weeks after "retirement" Ms. Sheehan announced that she was taking on Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) because:
Democrats and Americans feel betrayed by the Democratic leadership. We hired them to bring an end to the war. I'm not too far from San Francisco, so it wouldn't be too big of a move for me. I would give her a run for her money."Then I read where Ms. Sheehan was arrested today protesting the presence, and presumably testimony of General Petraeus and Ambassador Crocker before Congress. It occurred to me that perhaps Ms. Sheehan had thus decided to come out of retirement and perhaps she would consent to an interview. I called around and tracked her down and she graciously

I'd like more details on this one -- from the reports I've read, she was arrested for "yelling" in the halls. Last time I checked, that wasn't a crime. However, it was in Congress, and they tend to make their own rules -- but still, arrested for yelling? If that's all there was to it, that's wrong, even when it's arresting a fool like this one.

Ogre, get real. I was watching the report being delivered to Congress and Sheehan interrupts it by standing up screaming over and over from the balcony. Nothing could continue until she was removed along with her fellow "screamers," who erupted at planned intervals. If she wants to make a point, let her buy television time to do it rather than interrupt very important exchanges regarding our national security. The same thing would happen to her if she did that in a movie theater where you were watching a movie, and this was a little more important.

I know Cindy Sheehan's an easy target and a bit nutty, but her real son actually died in this war. I think you should cut her some slack.

Mavis, I've expressed, in the past, sorrow for her loss. Having said that, she has prostituted herself and her son to a cause for which I doubt he would have supported. Her initial comments regarding her first meeting with President Bush puts the lie to all of her claims afterwards to my way of thinking. The resulting publicity for her demands for a second meeting, only to castigate the president, went to her head and she used her son's death in a disgusting manner. I'm sorry for her loss, but I'm not going to cut her any slack.
