Minimum Wage To End Pay Problems Forever
Today the minimum wage went from $5.15 to $5.85 per hour. (Please reflect that in my next check, G.M.) Next July it jumps again to $6.55. Then, the year after that it goes to $7.25 an hour--a 41% increase over what it was yesterday. Now that the minimum wage has been raised and since the liberals insist that no one making more than those workers will want more, too, and that this will not cause any inflation, then this increase should be the final one for all time. Right?

Started this game in the 70's as more and more jobs vanish and people earning minimum wage can afford an extra tank of gas for six months then "fini!" (probably "fini" their jobs!!) I just know they're trying to figure out how to "out-source" McDonalds, Burger King, etc. as we type! Geez - What a crock!

this law was made to enable people to be government reliant - period. they can still get government medical benefits (paid by taxpayers), food stamps (paid by taxpayers), all their monies paid into taxes back at the end of the year - quite the vicious cycle, dontcha think?

chrys and nanc are correct. But there may be more to it.
Raising the minimum wage opens up more of the job market to illegal aliens who will work for less than minimum wage and be paid tax free under the table.

I am appauled at our democratic system where the only people who get raises because the cost of living goes up such as teachers, police, fire, and so on even our so called house and senate can vote in their own raises, what a crock!!!!! The prices go up on every thing but pay for the person who makes minumum wage, and the struggles is on weather to take the money from our food to pay insurance or taxes or gas to get to work so who ends up paying for it the families who live from check to check and sometimes it takes more than that to live. but hey lets just vote our selves in a raise. sure, bah hum bug. the minumum wage enforced to day does not do a darn thing for those living on mimumum wage.
when all people get a raise nothing is said about the poor, the needy having to pay more to live. The cost of things goes up. but let us ask for a raise of minumum wage and the government balks at the thought we needed the 7.25 now not two years from now. by then we will need more because our dear government can not find a way to curb the price of living, so the poor get poorer and the rich get richer, and the margin between comfortable living and poverty gets wider and wider. Why do we have such a system that lets this kinda pharse go on with people just trying to live the american dream, it gets further and further away from us for some it will never be relized until many generations have gone by. american dream bah hum bug

Kenneth, people who make minimum wages can get raises without the government mandating them. They simply have to grow in their jobs and make themselves more valuable to their companies. Minimum wages should be considered starting wages--not the final wages.

kenneth - people who get mini-wage get wayyyy more then the rest of us who have to work for every bennie we receive - we don't get food stamps, nor free medical benefits - what are you implying? we're not GIVING enough?
the "NEEDY" pay ONLY what they HAVE to pay - the rest of u.s. have no choice!

That's a little less than 15 grand, for full time. That will get you a studio apartment, utilities paid, in my neighborhood. You will need more money for food, clothing, transportation, and of course, to pay your taxes. How far will $14,500 go in tour neighborhood.

Moose, this issue is difficult to oppose, simply for political reasons--not valid economic ones.
