Fair and Balanced?

fair and balanced.jpg During the last senate imbroglio over the "grand compromise" (read that as amnesty bill) Diane Feinstein (D. Ca.) postulated that it was time to bring back the "Fairness Doctrine" because talk radio was dominated by the right. In spite of the fact that the left has tried to take over talk radio with Air America and previous radio shows (including the political posturing heard on NPR and seen on PBS) and failed miserably to resonate with the public, primarily because the public is saturated by left leaning folk through out the so called main-stream media. Nothing shows this discrepancy and inherent "unfairness" of the so called "fairness" doctrine more than this cartoon. Of course, Feinstein's real complaint was that a combination of talk radio, the blogosphere, emails, faxes, phone calls from all across America did in that nasty bill, sorry Lefties, that is the way a democracy works, and since you derive the name of your party (The Democrat Party if you need a reminder) from the word "democracy" you really ought to have known that.

Lefties, we are calling your canard for what it is, a lie and an attempt to dominate what the public is allowed to hear. Won't work this time, won't work ever.

Get ready for the Fairness Doctrine's return, much as we may hate it. If the Dems don't succeed in bringing it back this time around, they will certainly make the effort after the 2008 election.

The Fairness Doctrine makes as much sense as Net Neutrality. So I guess we should put each political camp behind their own wall built of the shredded remains of the Constitution. You see both of the Communists and Fascists in DC understand that they need to control thought and information. I'm just tired of the indictment of the media as toadies of the left. I think they are toadies of the almighty dollar and have failed the public and her intrest so horribly.

Well, psyb, that's the new rationalization of how the MSM isn't leftish. It's an improvement over the old "but we're objective professional journalists so our shared culture of belief doesn't influence us," anyway. It is true that they seek splash, blood and Paris Hilton, and I don't discount it. But the slant is quite real and even measurable. As bias is a very difficult thing to measure, the fact that it can be quantified at all is pretty compelling.

AVI I most strongly disagree. Here is why there are so many stories of public intrest that get completely burried, and never told by MSM. Second all the crap that Clinton pulled is immature childs play compared with the problems of this current administration. The fact that when the adminstration was brought to task over various problems with the war, policies, etc. the media was ignored and in many instances removed. By all means live in the fantasy land that the MSM is firmly in the left.

The "Fairness" doctrine makes no sense, but it might have fifty years ago when there were only three networks giving the news. Today, we have so many sources of information from all sides that no one is deprived from hearing different views. It's only about censorship. The Democrats have just joined forces with Hugo Chavez to ban anything contrary to socialist dicatatorships.
