Do Higher Taxes Solve Global Warming?
If you like higher taxes, be sure to support the fight against global warming and support politicians who see global warming as a priority issue. Coming to a country near you, before it goes on the road to the states....
Ottawa - The Green party wants Canadian drivers to pay an extra 12 cents a litre at the gas pumps as the price of averting environmental "catastrophe." Leader Elizabeth May is boasting that her party is the only one politically brave enough to call for carbon taxes that would discourage automobile use....
This next part is a real hoot.
"We will use those carbon taxes to reduce taxes elsewhere."
Yeahhhh, right. Never seen that happen.
The political leader also likened the gobal warming challenge to that of Kennedy's challenge to put a man on the moon. Of course, as I remember, the predecessors of this bunch opposed the race to the moon saying that the money should be given to the poor, instead. Hey, let's give the carbon tax to the poor!
Or, we could simply ask the oil companies to increase the price of gasoline by twelve cents and ask them to use that money to study global warming themselves, rather than have government handle the collections, spending, and research? Such studies would avoid the middle man and would have as much credibility.
This is just the start. To fight unproven global warming created by mankind, there will be on-going demands by politicians for more taxes and mandated pollution controls of questionable value that will drain companies and individuals of money.
This isn't a fight on global warming. It's a fight against the economies of the West and a fight to control the finances of nations. And, the "problem" will never go away and the taxes will only increase. I've never seen a crisis that liberals solved. They depend upon them for votes and taxes, and solving anything would end their source of power.
GW can stand for "global warming," but it can also stand for "grabbing wealth." Watch your wallets when liberals get causes.

How true, LOL, like our politicians will commute a tax-related discount to us should one appear.
The Global Warming scam is the greatest con in the history of this planet, and thanks to the U.N. as well as both U.S. and global media (and of course, Algore), the left believes that the force-feeding to which they are subjecting us will result in our gov't succumbing to it.

How right you are!

To buy Woody's assertion that Global Warming is a scam perpetrated by somebody (I assume liberals) to undermine the economies of the West, you've got to ignore monumental amounts of evidence.
1. Part of the G8 conference happening right now is about making China, India, and developing nations limit their emission growth.
2. Even though there remains some skepticism in segments of the scientific community, the overwhelming majority do believe in Global Warming. Are they trying to bring down Western economies? Why?
3. Certainly conservatives think liberals don't know how to effectively run an economy, but only a real lunatic thinks that regular, mainstream liberals are actually trying to ruin the American economy.
Now Woody never admits he's wrong or actually adresses specific arguements so I'm not really asking him, but do any of the commenters on this site really believe Woody's post? From what I can tell, the man is covered in tin foil.

Three articles selected quickly and purely at random....
Global Warming: Socialism’s Trojan Horse 2/22/02
Ultimately, it is the goal of environmentalists to terrify people (particularly those living in industrialized nations) into believing that their conduct has universal implications relevant to humanity as a whole. If the psychological terror campaign succeeds, then people (especially in the West) will be browbeaten into trading liberty and private property rights for the "safety" of our planet. At this point, Green Socialism will have won using global warming as its Trojan horse.(E)nvironmentalism has capitalism in its crosshairs. It is those of us who benefit from the fruits of Western Civilization that are being turned into enemies in the daily sociological and political discourse of environmentalists.
Global warming: The real agenda 12/26/98
...the two key foundations of the global warming movement. One is based in environmentalism, which essentially claims that human beings are a problem in nature. The other foundation is the old business of economic redistribution. Both these movements are linked in the (Kyoto) international climate change treaty....
THERE IS NO MAN-MADE GLOBAL WARMING 12/16/04
Well, as the debate rages, we find that there are really two kinds of scientists. There are those who look at facts and make their judgements based on what they see and know. Their findings can be matched by any other scientist, using the same data and set of circumstances to reach the same conclusions. It's a age-old practice called "peer review." It's the only true science.
And then there are those who yearn for a certain outcome and set about creating the needed data to make it so. Usually you will find this group of scientists greatly dependent on grants supplied by those with a specific political agenda who demand desired outcomes for their money.
Let's just take NASA, for example-the most trusted name in American science. A lot of NASA scientists have fallen into the money trap.
...modern-day environmentalism has little to do with protecting the environment. Rather, it is a political movement led by those who seek to control the world economies, dictate development, and redistribute the world's wealth.
They use the philosophical base of Karl Marx, the tactics of the KGB, and the rhetoric of the Sierra Club. The American people have been assaulted from all directions by rabid environmentalists.
To meet such drastically-reduced energy standards will-in the short run-cost the United States over one million jobs. Some estimate it will cost over seven million jobs in 14 years.
...It will cost the average family $1,000 to $4,000 dollars per year in increased energy costs. The cost of food will skyrocket. It has been estimated that in order for the United States to meet such a goal, our gross domestic product will be reduced by $200 billion-annually.
To force down energy use, the Federal government will have to enforce a massive energy tax that will drive up the cost of heating your home by as much as 30 to 40 percent. In all likelihood there will be a tax on gasoline-as high as 60 cents per gallon. There will be consumption taxes and carbon taxes. The Department of Energy has estimated that electricity prices could rise 86 percent-and gasoline prices 53 percent.
If the Kyoto Climate Change Protocol is all about protecting the environment-then how come it doesn't cover everybody? The truth, of course, is that the treaty is really about redistribution of the wealth. The wealth of the United States is, and has always been, the target. The new scheme to grab the loot is through environmental scare tactics.
And there's still more looting of the U.S. treasury planned. Supporters of the Kyoto Protocol also want industrialized nations to subsidize poor countries' adaption to global warming to the tune of $73 billion per year.
Don't think this devastation can't happen. The UN and the European Union have exposed their hatred for the United States. They envy our wealth and think that legalized theft, rather than sound economic policy, is the way to obtain it.
