Tax Freedom Day

The Tax Foundation has determined that today, April 30, 2007, is Tax Freedom Day in the U.S., which signifies when Americans stop working for the government and can start working to support themselves. Click HERE to see the report and links to the complete study.

Four months out of the year the average person in this country works for the government. Just think about that when pork spending comes up and they are using your money to fund it. The following chart gives you another perspective.

Days Americans Work to Pay Taxes
Compared to Other Expenses, 2007

While Tax Freedom Day is computed using averages of all states, the report goes further and breaks it down by individual states. It shows that people in "blue states" have a later Tax Freedom Day and work longer for the government than those in "red states." Doesn't that make you want to live in Massachusetts or California?

Congratulations on making it to this point! Go buy something for yourself. Now, it's your money and you've earned it.

AHA! another day older and deeper in debt. You failed to include that minor fact.
May I repeat myself very briefly?
The great secret of the WWII years. Prior to 1939, a person calculated the income tax and paid it lump sum. Every person was aware of how much he was paying. The new dealers then in charge realized that withholding some every pay day would lull the populace to sleep, and that was quickly proven. The complaints are not there because so many have too much money withheld, and the thought of a refund is exciting, not scary like it should be.
Today you and GM seem to think that you can starve the government by reducing their income, well you can't. They print the money, So the answer is, or should be. RAISE THE TAX TILL THE POPULACE REALIZES THAT THEY CAN DO BETTER BY ELECTING DIFFERENT CONGRESS FOLK. Politically it can never happen because the foxes are in the hen house. Raising taxes is anathema to our political types, and apparently to the republican stalwarts.

Yeah, and you and your buddies can go shoot a bunch of people until people cry out for gun laws.

The solution is to stop withholding at the source, which was only a temporary measure during WWII to help cash flow, and make everyone send in their own taxes quarterly. Believe me, they'll think about government waste when they have to write that check.

Government cannot just turn on the printing presses to make money. Our system and economics are more complicated and controlled than that.

I would like a check list on my tax return so that I could allocate what percent of my taxes that I would like to go to different cabinets or programs. But, liberals wouldn't accept that because most of the people who support their programs don't pay taxes and consume government money--thus, they lose a vote.

Now I get it again. You aren't really interested in the economic good of these United States. Your only ain is to parrot the radical republican line and get what you can for yourself.
Your ferver reminds me of the singlemindedness of the Bolshevicks in post Czarist Russia.
Also, please, this is not an assault on your character. I don't know you well enough for that

I would expect you to have studied communist Russia.

I'm not parroting a Republican line, but what is wrong with getting what you can for yourself? That's competition, and competition drives growth, innovation, and profits.
