Phony Democratic Apology Demands
To add to G.M.'s recent post titled The Psychology Of The Apology, Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean is outraged and demands that Republican candidates denounce journalist and entertainer Ann Coulter for alluding to Democratic candidate John Edwards as a "faggot" at the current Conservative Action Political Conference. I'm so tired of self-righteous indignation, especially from those who would have a lot of apologizing to do themselves using similar standards. Dean and the Democrats need to grow up, grow some thicker skin, or quit pretending.
The world doesn't give everyone a free pass to go through life not being offended, but it's up to individuals to go through life not pretending to be offended just for personal gain.
And, apologies should be offered, not demanded. An apology given under pressure is usually not sincere. And demands for apologies are usually just attempts to win a point through embarrassment, which is wrong, too.
Now, will the Democrats apologize to our troops in Iraq and Viet Nam veterans for the Democrats' roles in encouraging our enemies and prolonging the wars and apologize to the American people for trying to ruin our country by driving it down the road to big government socialism? No, I really don't mean that, because the Democrats would never admit that they are wrong on something that they really believe, and I know better than to even ask.

Howard Dean is giving Al Gore and John Kerry a run for their money in the "Narcisist of the Year" competition.
I mean, everyone knows that when a food fight breaks out, the last thing you should do is to step in the middle of it.
I hope he gets a face-full from both sides.

correction: "Narcissist"

Howard Dean absolutely needs to work on his own apologies. All the evil that white men of European descent, a group of which he is a member, have done in the world is tremendous. American Indians, the entire continent of Africa, India, much of the Orient, virtually the entire awaits Howard Dean's apology.
Indeed, as a patriarch in a patriarchal society, he should be applauding Ann Coulter for being a woman of courage and standing up to speak her mind against one of those oppressive patriarchs.
Today I attended an academic team competition in which my fifth grade daughter participated. In the quick recall portion, "New England" was the correct answer to one question. I thought, "How offensive! A portion of this country named after the homeland of the people that stole it from the Indians!" I am formally announcing here, for the first time, the beginning of a campaign to rename the area referred to as "New England" to "Upper Northeast." "Upper Northeas" is a nice, neutral geographic designation that should be unoffensive to everyone. Rally the forces! We have a mission.

Why oh why is it considered a 'requirement' to say ANYTHING that might be construed as even remotely 'defensive' of Coulter. Or anything about her at all that does not start and end with --- Ann just GO AWAY. Far ,far, away. Please !!
She is a complete disgrace. As Dan Ackroyd would have said long ago--- " Ann, you ignorant slut." The noun part would be pure conjecture but the adjective is almost dictionary perfect. She is IGNORANT on virtually every level. The latest is just that. The latest in a LONG stream of self-aggrandising ,and usually clueless, viciousness.
I don't care at all what Daffy Howard Dean is demanding. But instead of pointing out the myriad flaws of Dean and his 'progressive' loons-in-arms, I think a simple condemnation of Coulter would have made for a better post here. Two wrongs really don't saw off to one right. They just represent two wrongs.
The fact that a creature such as her is not universally derided by the 'right' is just ----sad. No wonder you can't do better than a 50.5 /49.5 saw-off against what objectively is a bankrupt opposition.
The object guys is to be 'better' than the lowest common denominator. Not equal to it. Coulter does not even hit the 'equal' mark. On her BEST days.

Google is indeed your friend. All hail Google !!!
It's OK if you are a Republican .
I don't 'get' it but now at least I can 'interpret' it. You know, actual WORDS and coherent phrases, were invented for a perfectly good reason. Codespeak is for spies and 'cult' types.
LOL should be the ONLY acronym allowed in polite society. Text messaging and its 'culture' is an abomination upon us all.
Or as Moose might have it --- TMIAAUUA. ---:-)

Why should anybody apologize for Ann ... she does not speak for the either party ... Ann is her own person ... she can say what ever she wants and must deal with the consequences ... Dean is an idiot

Ann Coulter's antics are a deterioration in the political discourse from the conservative side. Statements that might be acceptable from an entertainer or comedian have to be put differently, or avoided altogether, if you wish your ideas to be taken seriously. See, for example, PJ O'Rourke, not noted for being gentle.
I know Ann didn't start it, and it is mainstream from entertainers on the left, but I still don't like it. I don't listen to her, so I can't really say, but perhaps she has gotten addicted to limelight.
