Sign The Petition!
NZ bear has put up a petition to the Republicans in Congress regarding the shameful "resolution."
If the United States Senate passes a resolution, non-binding or otherwise, that criticizes the commitment of additional troops to Iraq that General Petraeus has asked for and that the president has pledged, and if the Senate does so after the testimony of General Petraeus on January 23 that such a resolution will be an encouragement to the enemy, I will not contribute to any Republican senator who voted for the resolution. Further, if any Republican senator who votes for such a resolution is a candidate for re-election in 2008, I will not contribute to the National Republican Senatorial Committee unless the Chairman of that Committee, Senator Ensign, commits in writing that none of the funds of the NRSC will go to support the re-election of any senator supporting the non-binding resolution. If you would like to sign this petition, and I urge you to do so, please click on NZ Bears petition page. The troops in Iraq will thank you for it. As Glenn Reynolds noted:
OLD CONVENTIONAL WISDOM: "Rumsfeld and Bush should have listened to the generals."Indeed!NEW CONVENTIONAL WISDOM: Shut up, generals.
Update: This thing has been up less than two hours and already has over 1600 signatures. Mine is number 1476.
Posted by gmroper at January 24, 2007 06:47 PM | TrackBackI'm curious just how many Generals disagree with Junior? For that matter of those Generals how many have been forced to retire, given different assignments, etc. for their disagreement? This current president is starting to remind me of other historical leaders, but we'll leave them out of this conversation.
I'm proud of this Congress. Why? Because their remembering those civics classes we took as kids. They forgot that although Duh is Commander in Chief the Congress controls the purse and ultimately the army. The army is an extension of the will of people, and that will is to have them home.
