Donald Rumsfeld Lands New Job
One person's loss is another person's gain: Rumsfeld Moves Up
Let's hope that he uses enough players to win.
In many minds that is a more important job that Secretary of Defense and only second to coaching the UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE VOLUNTEERS!!!
BTW - did you watch any of the Tennessee/Texas Basketball game? Chris Lofton, who scored 35 for Tennessee including 7 three pointers, is a product of Mason County Schools where two of my kids go. He's been lighting it up from three point range for a long time now. He was tons of fun to watch in high school. He hold the Kentucky state tournament records for most three pointers attempted, most made and highest percentage made. All were set when they won the state championship with the tallest player on the team measuring only 6' 3" (the point guard!). That team hold all the same records as a team, also.

WOW! Great idea - they couldn't get a better guy! Before you know it he'll be working with Condi again when she becomes the commissioner! lol

I guess Mr. Rumsfeld turned down a better job offer...or else Billy Beane ignored my sage advice. After all, I wrote the following on Nov 11th on Athletics Nation:
For a team that worships defense, who better than the former Secretary of Defense. Team discipline should be a snap. His philosophy of doing more with less should fit right in with Moneyball. One tiny problem working with Billy...each one would be trying to prove he's smarter. And of course there's the minor matter of salary, and Rumsfeld's body guard might make the dugout a bit crowded. But it would certain be a coup...well maybe that's not the best choice of word, how about putsch?
I got some great responses too...

Good call, civil truth. You're a good judge of talent. Outgoing politicians might do well in the field of sports.
Now, after today, the Atlanta Falcons should get new coaches, and I'm proposing Dick Cheney to be the quarterbacks coach for Michael Vick. Cheney has a working knowledge of the shotgun formation and will expose holes in opponents.
