Global Warming Alarmists Scare Kids

The global warming alarmists on the left have no shame and will do whaever it takes, including scaring kids, to attack western economies.

New UN Children’s Book Promotes Global Warming Fears to Kids

A new United Nations children’s book promoting fears of catastrophic manmade global warming is being promoted at the UN Climate Change Conference in Kenya. ...The new children’s book, entitled “Tore and the Town on Thin Ice” is published by the United Nations Environment Programme and blames “rich countries” for creating a climate catastrophe and urges children to join environmental groups.

...The polar bear (tells) Tore, “It looks like many animals and fish and birds will go extinct—die out—during your lifetime, partly because of changes in climate.” ...After a whale appears to present more climate fear, the boy finally screams, “Listen, I’ve had all the bad news I can stand. Our world is melting. Polar bears are starving and all sorts of animals won’t survive. I don’t want to hear anymore!” The whale responds, “That’s the spirit! Get good and angry. You’ll need all that energy to make a difference.”

Nice. Child abuse, perhaps? You may ask if this is a joke, which it seems on the surface, but this is real and shows the desperation of the anti-West and anti-capitalist movement, which has hijacked science with left-wing politics and scare tactics. Is this what they want "for the childrennnnn?" Maybe Stephen King's next scary book can be on global warming.

If you want to see a copy of the actual book, click on the book title above which takes you to a pdf copy of it. But, for information on global warming which is honest, here are scientists who let us know the truth:

Not strange at all, coming from the source it does.

Socialist movements of all kinds (the Nazis and the Soviets, to name a couple) have always believed in brainwashing the children to cultivate the future society they want.

And the UN is all about an eventual world socialist government (run by them, of course).

I love beast fable - The Wind In The Willows, Watership Down, The Redwall books. But the point of these books is that they are actually a window onto the lives of human beings in a form that allows certain conventions. CS Lewis observes brilliantly on this for those who care to pursue it.

The idea that animals have rich emotional and intellectual lives is pernicious. Animal rights groups and greens in general seem to be populated with people who never outgrew the anthropomorphizing stage of development. Let me tell the dirty little secret about the activists in environmental groups: they don't have children of their own. Once they have children, they seem to mysteriously disappear as activists. This is not accidental, and not merely a derivative of the increased time it takes to raise children. It is because having children points up the ridiculousness of the extreme environmentalist position (though it does encourage folks to be involved in the more limited conservation goals of clean water, clean air, some forest). The vague "web of life" goals are revealed for the shallow, non-scientific, aesthetic goals that they really are.

We hear a lot from those who get bent out of shape by creationism, loftily declaring it to be an abuse of science for a political (and/or religious) end. Will these people stand up to condemn this book's prostitution of science for political ends, or is it only wrong when "they" do it? I'm not going to hold my breath.

The self-deception runs even deeper than that, CT. They would be shocked at the suggestion that they are giving any slack to their personal views in the national debate. Their perception is that they are merely clearing the way for the right views to be clearly heard.

An increase in global temperatures can in turn cause other changes, including a rising sea level and changes in the amount and pattern of precipitation. These changes may increase the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, such as floods, droughts, heat waves, hurricanes, and tornados. Other consequences include higher or lower agricultural yields, glacial retreat, reduced summer stream flows, species extinctions and increases in the ranges of disease vectors. Warming is expected to affect the number and magnitude of these events; however, it is difficult to connect particular events to global warming. Although most studies focus on the period up to 2100, warming (and sea level rise due to thermal expansion) is expected to continue past then, since CO2 has an estimated atmospheric lifetime of 50 to 200 years. Only a small minority of climate scientists discount the role that humanity's actions have played in recent warming. However, the uncertainty is more significant regarding how much climate change should be expected in the future, and there is a hotly contested political and public debate over what, if anything, should be done to reduce or reverse future warming, and how to deal with the predicted consequences.
