Well,

I had to make a concious effort to say the correct color (the degree of effort varied),

I see lots of black dots but only when I'm not looking at them,

the elephant has four legs, or six, or they're moving,

I know the lines are parallel but they sure do look slanted,

I have to work at seeing the woman's face and the baby.

Now, what does it all mean Doc?!? Is it hopeless?

TMS, I'm afraid it's hopeless. Since you had to work to get the colors right, since you couldn't see black dots except indirectly, because you saw converging lines EVEN WHEN YOU KNEW they were parallel and lastly, because you just wern't able to immediately make out the baby or the woman's face I'm afraid that even though they may try, though they send countless reg's, steves, marc's and marks after you.... you will Never become a radical lefty type progressive. I'm sorry to have to deliver that bad news to you my son! So go now, and sin no more.
