Mets and Yankees Sew Up Divisions - Let's Move On to Football
Normally at this time of the year, we'll have posts on the progress and victories of the Red Sox and the Braves. Well, this year is not normal. After fourteen straight division championships, the Braves are going to sit at home during the playoffs--well, more likely on the golf courses where they probably spent too much time during spring training. The Red Sox are all but eliminated and will sit wondering how they were swept at home and blew their lead to the Yankees. If anyone is still interested in the baseball races, and we can't imagine why with our two teams out, here is a link to the MLB standings and playoffs.
Posted by Woody M. at September 19, 2006 09:30 AM | TrackBackWith only 12 games remaining for my Red Sox, I don't hold out any hope that they will even make it to the "Wild Card" slot. Both Minnesota and Chicago would have to screw up pretty badly, and of course the Yankee's almost never screw up that badly. Nope, not much hope for Boston THIS YEAR!!!! And, as Boston fans always say "WAIT 'TILL NEXT YEAR!!!"

If the A's and the Angels match wins/losses tonight, that will put the A's 6.5 games ahead with 12 games to go. This of course is the infamous situation the Phillies faced in 1964. Unfortunately, in past years, Mr. Macha has channeled Gene Mauch (the Phillies manager in 1964) when it comes to pennant runs and post-season games. Will history repeat itself?
Of course, looking on the positive side, the A's are in a better position to go on to the post-season than 26 other MLB teams...
