The Democrat's Same Ole, Same Ole.
From Nancy Pelosi (Moonbat, California) who is really, when you come right down to it expected to be elected Minority Leader when the next congress meets, is issuing large pieces of "Pie In The Sky (TM)" as is the wont of the Democratic Party. From the Washington Times:
Congressional Democrats announced "a new direction for America" yesterday, outlining a litany of promises to raise the minimum wage and lower gas prices, college tuition and the cost of health care.Oh yeah, nothing has changed, "Vote For Democrats and get the same ole crap you have gotten for decades." Yeah, like I'm convinced!"Democrats are united in presenting a new direction for America, one that will make our nation as strong as the American people," House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said.
The new Democratic agenda does not contain suggestions, however, for fighting the war against terrorism or dealing with illegal aliens, two issues that are of top concern to many Americans. Instead, it focuses entirely on domestic and economic issues.
If Democrats take control of the House in November, Mrs. Pelosi promised they will on the first day of Congress "give America a raise by increasing the minimum wage."

Posted by GM Roper at June 18, 2006 08:07 PM | TrackBackIf the Democratic plan is to win votes from morons, then I think they are on the right track. Let’s review:
Increase the minimum wage so that unemployment will increase among that group of people who need a job most. Also, an increase in wages among any group is a guarantee to an almost immediate increase in the cost of living, which invalidates the pay increase. Why couldn’t they come up with a plan to increase the disposable income of working Americans?
They also want to reduce the cost of prescription drugs – so let’s examine this proposal further. How does one reduce the cost of drugs? Do the democrats have any idea what it takes to produce a beneficial drug from start to finish? Apparently not . . . so then are the drug manufacturers (there are only a couple left in the USA) supposed to take a loss? Yes, apparently the Democrats have thought this out really well. But actually, what they are doing is pandering to the "welfare" generation and those who are living on fixed incomes and who need medications to sustain their health. So then, rather than reducing the "cost of drugs," why not provide tax credits to senior citizens to help compensate them for prescription medications? Oh, sorry . . . that makes too much sense.
They also want to reducing interest rates on student loans -- and how does this benefit America? No, it only benefits Democrats because again, they are pandering for votes from among college aged people, most of whom have been in school all of their lives and haven’t a clue.
Democrats also want to roll back subsidies for oil companies. And how will that affect the consumer's costs for processed oil?
They want to institute “pay as you go” budgeting. Budgeting is something you do BEFORE spending, so I'm not sure what in this plan entails. One thing is for certain, however; we can be assured that members of Congress will vote themselves another hefty pay raise, no matter how many homeless people live inside the Beltway -- and, of course, the liberals will feel good about ensuring that they themselves are never homeless.
The Democratic Plan is a blank sheet of paper, folks. It will remain so until voters demand better from these highly paid, under qualified servants of the people.

Raising the minimum wage sure does put people out of work. In my business, the restaurant business, this wreaks havoc because there is also a minimum wage on tipped employees.
Here in Florida just a little over a year ago tipped employees made 2.13 an hour. It doesn't sound like much but our tipped employees, bartenders and waiters, earn anywhere between $400 and $800 a week in wages and tips. And that's on a 30-35 hour week. When they raise minimum, they also raise these tipped employees. Last year they went to 3.13 an hour and then on Jan. 1st, Florida bumped it up to 3.38 an hour.
This cost our small business upwards of another $5K a month in increased wages and the taxes paid on those wages which are not paid by the employee. SS tax, MC tax, federal unemployment tax and state unemployment tax. Not to mention the hike in worker's compensation insurance which is based on employee's earnings.
We were going to hire another badly needed manager and give the other three managers two days off a week instead of just one and hire one or two more line employees. Many small businesses can only react in worse ways everytime they jack up minimum wage. They can cut benefits, cut work hours or lay someone off.
And don't get me started on the ways they plan to make sure that all employees are given health insurance. Try collecting insurance premiums from a tipped employee whose paycheck is only about $50 every two weeks and doesn't cover it. THAT's fun.

This is a typical list of democratic wet dreams. Not one 'how' we're going to accomplish any of their list of dreams. Lowering gas prices will require drilling in and around the U.S., but they're not going to allow that. As usual they'll just lie to the people and 40% of the people will eat the same old dim-wit bologna sandwich with a healthy coating of BS.
