V.P. Cheney Causes Hunting Accident, But The Left "Shoots from the Lip" and Misfires

As you may have heard, V.P. Dick Cheney accidentally peppered a hunting companion with birdshot. According to Katharine Armstrong, owner of the ranch were the accident occured: "It broke the skin. It knocked him silly. But he was fine. Fortunately, the vice president has got a lot of medical people around him and so they were right there..." According to reports, the injured man is in stable condition and being treated at the hospital. It was an accident, but a very interesting part is how gun control advocates immediately reacted with hysteria and irrationality.

Release by Peter Hamm of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence

James and Sarah Brady Comment on the Vice President's Hunting Mishap

"Now I understand why Dick Cheney keeps asking me to go hunting with him," said Jim Brady. "I had a friend once who accidentally shot pellets into his dog - and I thought he was an idiot."

"I've thought Cheney was scary for a long time," Sarah Brady said. "Now I know I was right to be nervous."

There you have it. There was a hunting accident--an accident--caused by the Vice President and "activists against gun violence" make Dick Cheney their latest notorious threat to the safety of humanity. I know that Jim Brady suffered brain damage in the attempted assassination of President Reagan, but what's the excuse of others who hate all guns except those held by government?

By the way, check out the linked article covering this story. You have to love the picture of V.P. Cheney that they selected. Certainly, no bias intended, huh?

On a somewhat related and ironic note, in 2001 there was a Saturday Night Live opening skit where President Bush discussed the future of the nation:

President George W. Bush: ...Okay, listen.. I'm just gonna get this Address thing over with. As we assess the State of the American Union today, we have reason to hope, because.. [ takes out a map which shows California and Florida as islands, Texas in Communist Mexico, and the Great Lakes on fire ] Holy crap! When did all this happen?! Wow.. the Great Lakes are on fire - even I know that's not good. [ laughs ] Okay, America, we got a lot of problems. I ain't gonna lie to you. But with the help of Vice-President Dick Cheney..

Voice of Advisor: You killed him in a hunting accident!

You're going to hear a lot of irrational reactions and accusations from the left about this accident. Just remind them that no one drowned and that no one "committed suicide" on the hunt.

Why can't I leave trackbacks to GM's corner?

Posted by Louisiana Conservative at February 12, 2006 09:30 PM

Probably because I dont know what I'm doing. If you want, I may just place known trackbacks that don't work as links at the bottom. P.S. Maybe Slobokan can answer the question.

The guys on our local sports radio had a good line today. They said that Cheney claimed the shooting was based on faulty intelligence.

(I agree that there is no excuse for such an accident. You should know whether or not other hunters are in your line of fire.)

Posted by Woody at February 13, 2006 08:20 AM

You got the ghosts of Mary Jo Kopechne and Vince Foster to work overtime and threw in a smear of former fellow conservative Jim Brady for good measure. What class and what style! You guys are definitely elevating the level of discourse over here at GM's Corner! Yes? No? Or is this just so much regurgitated Rush Limbaugh? We report and you decide!

Posted by E. Nonee Moose at February 13, 2006 04:44 PM

Who smeared whom? It seems to me that the Brady's went out of line, so they have no reason to complain when that is pointed out. It is they, as it was Lowery and Carter at the King funeral, who lacks class and style. The left is typically short on manners, but they hate it when that is pointed out. BTW, you would be surprised at how little I listen to conservative talk radio. If we agree with what they say, it's only because great minds think alike. Also, we ask that people provide real email addresses, so consider it a courtesy that we allow your posts even though you refuse the courtesy of following the rules.

Woody, you have forgotten the rule that states "any criticism by a conservative is a smear." It's so easy when you know the language.

Posted by Assistant Village Idiot at February 13, 2006 08:22 PM

I'm learning, AVI. Also, any ideas or proposals by conservatives are "schemes." Maybe you can help us put together a dictionary of liberal terms to help the average reader distinguish the rhetoric from the facts.

Who smeared whom?

Sounded to me like you were poking fun at Jim Brady's brain injury.

It seems to me that the Brady's went out of line

I think Jim was right on the money. Sarah may have been a little too cheeky but hardly enough to justify the hullabaloo you want to make of it.

Also, we ask that people provide real email addresses, so consider it a courtesy that we allow your posts even though you refuse the courtesy of following the rules.

Cut me off any time you wish King Woody. I'll shed a tear or two if you do, but I'm sure I'll get over it in due time.

Posted by E. Nonee Moose at February 13, 2006 09:07 PM

Of course, you make whatever you want of anything, whether it's accurate or not. I didn't poke fun at Brady's injury. I allowed it as an excuse. I didn't make a hullabaloo, but simply reported just one more example of irrationality from the left and as a warning to watch for more on this. It's so common. A hunting accident hardly justifies calls to ban guns and implying that the V.P. intentionally shot someone.

It seems that you have a problem interpreting or understanding statements from others. And, what's this King Woody business? The last time you or some other lefty addressed me I was called god. Maybe superlative titles don't fit someone who simply asks that commenters remain cordial and follow the rules for commenting. Why can others do it but you can't?

Posted by Woody at February 13, 2006 09:35 PM

Nonee,

I have read Woody's post and can find nothing at all that gives the impression, he is making fun of Brady.

But we know that's not the real issue here, is it?

The issue is, you do not have an argument to refute what Woody has said, therefore, you do only what you know to do. You attempt to shanghai the debate into something it is not, so you can feel good about yourself.

Tell the truth Nonee, you have made fun of Reagan's Alzheimer's haven't you? Be honest now. The more you are honest with yourself, the easier it will be, to be honest with others. (You don't have to tell me, I already know the answer to this one.)

Why don't you go get an ideology that you can use as a valid argument against what Woody says in the post, instead of trying to pick a childish fight? Because all you really have, is a chip on your shoulder.

A hunting accident hardly justifies calls to ban guns

It's not inconsistent with anything Jim Brady has said before... why act surprised now?

and implying that the V.P. intentionally shot someone.

Jim Brady implied that? When? Where?

Here's the $64 dollar question for you: If you received a personal invitation from Dick Cheney to accompany him on a hunting trip on a Texas ranch, would you accept it?

remain cordial and follow the rules for commenting

My tone, I think, was very much in line with the tone of the original post. Looks like this is another situation where Woody can dish it out but not take it.

As far as rules go, I am not a number, I am a free man! Or maybe I am a number... You know my IP address so enforce the "rules" if they mean that much to you.

Posted by E. Nonee Moose at February 14, 2006 06:20 AM

Notice that Nonee has chosent to ignore the points that I presented to him and chosen to continue his baseless diatribe against Woody.

Why?

Because, he knows I spoke the truth.

You see, the left can't handle truth very well. That is why they seek to manipulate it. That is why Nonee has chosen to take this path.

He doesn't have his own blog, he doesn't follow rules of the blog he comments on. He attempts to twist Woody's words into something that they are NOT.

I guess he doesn't realize that his bitterness severely affects his ability to be counted as relevant. If he doesn't get help, his bitterness will eat him up.

Posted by LASunsett at February 14, 2006 07:17 AM

LA Sunsett, the left also chooses to define "victory" in discussions as being the preconceived ideas that they put forth for which they will NEVER accept any rebuttals. No matter how you answer, they will say, "in other words... or so that proves that you...," and claim that this gives them the superior arguments--even though horribly misrepresentative of the truth or what was said. If I want someone to be a judge for who prevails in a debate, it won't be any person involved in it or who has an ax to grind. It is impossible to debate liberals, as they constantly shift the argument and make irrational analyses. Ann Coulter was right about the problems of talking with them.
