Hate Bush? - Take This Test and Leave the Country.

When George W. Bush was elected President, we had the usual Hollywood villains huffing that they were leaving the country. Much to our disappointment, they didn't. Then, when Bush was running for re-election, those threats (or promises to me) were made again--and not kept. It's possible that the complainers didn't leave because they had no knowledge of how to become citizens of another country. So, I offer this British citizenship test for everyone who wants to escape Bush. If Madonna can learn to speak with a British accent, then certainly the Hollywood elite can read a book to pass this test and keep their promises to get out of Dodge.

BBC News - Can you pass a citizenship test?

The government is launching the citizenship test for foreigners who want to become British. If you want the passport, then you'll have to read Life in the UK, a special book, and sit a 45-minute test on society, history and culture. But do you know what it is to be British? The following very unofficial questions are based on information in the official book - let's see how well you do.

First, here is a question that I missed when I took the test. (This is really covered.)

Life in the UK explains what to do if you spill someone's pint in the pub. What, according to the book, usually happens next?

A: You would offer to buy the person another pint
B: You would offer to dry their wet shirt with your own
C: You may need to prepare for a fight in the car park

If you think that you can handle these questions on the U.K., you can find the Sample Test Here.

When I took the U.S. citizenship tests in an earlier post, I was able to get 100%, but I only got 8 out of 14 for the British test, so I guess that I'm sticking around the U.S. I wouldn't have it any other way--especially if many of the left leave.

Hrumph... I only got 3, guess I'll stick with being an American... I've been to Heatherow arrivals... don't really want to go back.

I guessed at several and got lucky.

6 correct...too much overthinking. Of course, when all else fails, read the instructions...

7. Of course, I only got that many right through a combo of meager historical knowedge (everyone know St David's Day is before patrick's day, right? :-) and assuming the wackiest answer was probably right...

heh

Followed the link to your post on the other "citizenship quizes" and had some fun. Thanks to an upbringing in the 50s where family (and extended family) conversations revolved around history, politics, theology and football (the last embodying the previous three at times :-), the American citizenship quizes were pretty much of a breeze.

THIS one is one I'd like to see high school grads in the U.S. pass... a dream awaiting fulfillment:

It's an online practice version of this pdf practice test from the old INS:

...which is itself distilled from this civics review:

That is an easy test for anyone who was in school before they got dumbed-down. It certainly covers a lot more than the other tests presented.

There was one question that had me stumped:

Q. What do you call a change in the Constitution?

I didn't know if it was an amendment or judicial activism, which is more common.

Leave the country ? Not on your life. We're having too much fun watching W's little Beltway boat sink and his Grand Old Partisans get their comeuppance. And things are just warming up.

In any event, why would the majority of Americans who recognize Bush as an incompetent who lacks basic integrity want to leave our great land to the undeserving wankers, the cabal or the various and sundry DC con artists.

Of course, it's a free country, so anyone who's so disposed is more than welcome to emulate the "Americanism" of neo-con guru Richard Perle, who tallies his income from war profiteering at his villa in France or any of the countless corporations and financiers that the GOP counts as its "base" but who seem to have a strange allegiance to the Cayman Islands when it's tax time.

If any corporation is evading taxes, then take measures against them. If a corporation merely avoids taxes, which is legal, then no one should complain--especially anyone else who pays only what he is legally obligated to pay. If anyone reading this sends more money to the government than they owe, please let me know why.
