Is It Possible To Have A "Moderate" Islam? Probably Not!
Jason Pappas writing at Liberty and Culture asks "Is Moderate Islam viable?" and answers the question too. An Exerpt:
Muhammad preached tolerance as he struggled for acceptance in Mecca. His subsequent rule in Medina, however, is marred with violence. He funded his nascent religion by raiding caravans on route to Mecca even during periods held sacred by regional custom. He encouraged the assassination of his critics, establishing a reign of terror that culminated in the ethnic cleansing of the Jews from Medina. In general, he conquered and subjugated most of Arabia. In doing so he created a supremacist warrior religion that is imperialist in nature."This is a seminal work, read the whole thing.

And let's never forget that MTP repudiated the earlier "peaceful verses," which the leftists are so fond of quoting (with edits), after the Jews wouldn't accept Islam.
Beyond that, all Muslims (unless they're lazy about their faith) want to establish a worldwide caliphate. The "moderates" will use our system to impose shari'a law; the radicals will continue terrorist attacks. Right now, CAIR is using our laws to try to prevent freedom of speech on that part of Michael Graham and Geoff Metcalfe. And CAIR is not after just talk radio. Visit CAIR's site, and you'll see the attempts they are making to silence newspapers as well. Is the Internet next?
Just by way of review here...The Muslims lay claim to Jerusalem because MTP dreamed of going there. I dream of going to Maui, so do I own it?
As Jason points out, Islam defies Western logic.
I also recommend his article "Is Islam Evil?" It's located on the right sidebar at Liberty and Culture. In fact, I originally found Jason's blog through a link he posted at Jihad Watch; that link was to "Is Islam Evil?"
