Border Patrol Catches, uh... Its Own Agent?

Well, the U.S. Border Patrol caught an illegal alien that went undetected by the Minutemen group. But, the Border Patrol had an advantage. The illegal alien was one of its own agents! On top of that, he is charged with smuggling more than one-hundred illegals across the border from Mexico using his border patrol vehicle. How was the Border Patrol to know that the birth certificate that he produced with his application four years ago was forged? What are the odds of that?

According to reports from San Diego, the now former agent, has been charged with falsely claiming to be a U.S. citizen and with smuggling illegal immigrants. He went before a federal judge for a bail hearing.

"Magistrate Judge Anthony Battaglia ruled that Oscar Antonio Ortiz, 28, is an illegal alien himself, and no amount of bail could ensure his return to court. The temptation for Ortiz to flee to his native Mexico was strong, the judge said. "You are an illegal alien," Battaglia told the defendant. "You have no right to work here. You have no right to live here."

Ortiz must have been shocked to be the first illegal immigrant in California to be told that he had no right to work or live there. However, he wasn't needed to pick fruit, so I guess he was dispensable.

Now, are you comfortable with the security of our borders?

Check out Fox News Online today (Thursday 11 August). Anglos in Texas are no longer the majority. OK, OK. This sounds like a racist rant. Nope. Just look at the stats and look at the results. Failed, or failing, countries encourage their citizenry to leave. The U.S. and other countries that are (or were) doing rather well are the receivers of immigrants who bring all sorts of bad things in their proverbial kit bags. All immigrants are NOT bad....but unchecked illegal immigration is an Rx for disaster.

Yeah, look at what the Greeks did to Rome! I liked the joke about a Greek and a Roman arguing about which civilization had the greatest achievements. The Greek mentioned the Parthenon and the Roman mentioned the Coliseum, then ships versus roads, etc. Finally, the Greek said that they invented sex, to which the Roman replied, "Yeah, but we introduced it to women."

This is off topic, but I found it kind of interesting. I'm about a 1/4 in to reading Texas, by James Michener, and I was surprised to find out that Stephen Austin, who was responsible for bringing large numbers of the early settlers (from Kentucky, Tennessee, etc.) to Texas. I did not know that he was essentially the Governor of Tejas, as it was called when it was part of Mexico. After the revolution of 1822, a new constitution for Mexico was written that outlawed all forms of slavery. Austin supported this at first, but proceeded to continually change his stance (the dreaded flip-flop!) when immigrants from North America (of whom 9 out of ten couldn't afford slaves) threatened to pull up stakes. I'm guessing that this was at the root of Texas becoming apart of America.

Well, that and the fact that Catholicism was the only allowed religion in Tejas; Austin's immigrants had to (pseudo) convert to Catholicism from other religions (primarily Methodist) in order to remain in Tejas and to own land. Kind of relates to GM's above post.

Not making judgements here; just found it intreresting.

In the 1820s, Mexico found out the hard way what uncontrolled immigration can do. Now, they're doing it back to us.
