Take The Log Out Of Your Own Eye Before You Complain About The Mote In Someone Else's Eye
The Imam's are "worried!" Oh please! You want to insure that there are no retalitory actions, then begin to police your own "Racist Right Wing" Islamo-fascists. Start a call from the pulpit against them. Issue a Fatwa or Twenty! Scream it from the Minarets that this is a perversion of Islam. Maybe then, maybe you can rest easy. Hypocrites!
From the Times Online:
MUSLIM leaders voiced fears yesterday that racist right-wing groups are already seeking to stir up hatred against their community after the bomb attacks.Talks were being held with police and local authorities to ensure the security of mosques and areas where there are large Islamic populations.
Although the Government emphasised that it would not “jump to conclusions†about responsibility for the attacks, there was a grim acceptance among many community leaders that the perpetrators would turn out to be extremists linked to their religion.

"Fear of backlash" is the only reason for the talking heads to keep emphasizing that it isn't the "moderate Muslims" who are responsible for this. When it happens again here, I think you will see a backlash.

Hey Bernhard, welcome to my blog. That's really cool, you provided about 250 internet links of Muslims condeming terrorism/OBL/Al Qaeda. 250 out of maybe 20,000 Imam's with access to internet/publication/newspapers etc. Let's see.... that makes about a rate of somewhere near the vicinity of 1%... yep, that sure shuts down my prejudices.
And Bernhard, your comment will remain for all to see, even if you do disagree with my POV. ;-) I've only deleted a single comment (other than spam of course) in my 9 months of posting, and I've yet to ban anyone for disagreeing with me. When will you be able to make the same free speech claim? Hmmmmmm?

Fine. We'll shoot those people last.
It's a damn religious war whether you, b, want to admit it or not. Hide your head in the sand if you like, call the sky pink polka-dotted, live in your fantasy-land, but just leave the real world and defense of your freedom to those who are willing to die for it and stay out of the way.

*sigh*
I still say paving Mecca and Medina with radioactive glass ought to be on the table for discussion...
Oh, so tired of Muslim hypocritical whining. I'll be on the lookout for opportunities to "desecrate" some Musilim "scriptures," tell a few hypocritical Muslims to head on back to the third world hellhole they came from, etc. Ship 'em all to Saudi Arabia and let the major terrorist paymasters take care of the phony "religion of peaceniks"â€â€Âcomplete with dealing with the already critical water supply problems that area of the world has.
heck, let's sell 'em all the water they need... at about $55 a barrel.
Sounds like a plan: expel all Muslims from Western nations, ship 'em to Saudi Arabia in containers filled with hog waste and make the Saudis support them.
Nuke Mecca and Medina.
Sell 'em water for about the price they set for oil.
Out of patience. No time for more jaw-jaw. Send 'em back to the stone age where they belong, one and all.
Yeh, a wee tad grumpy, aren't I? After this last attack by Islamic savages, it's about time the Muslims who claim to be "good Muslims" either take responsibility for addressing the barbarity of their brothers or begin paying the price of their disingenuity.

Hey there, 'b', if you're really going so far as to say that this isn't a Holy War if a few imams condemn it, then maybe you'd like to read that Time article/getting-to-know-you piece about Marwan, the Iraqi homicide bomber-in-training. He's a real charmer, that one. Or, maybe you did, and you feel warm and fuzzy all over about these ordinary dudes who want to blow us the heck up?
One of my favorite Marwan quotes:
"I pray no innocent people are killed in my mission. But if some are, I know when they arrive in heaven, Allah will ask them to forgive me.†How... thoughtful of him, always thinking of others, especially given that his is the jihadist worldview of one global Islamic state, where there is “no alcohol, no music and no Western influences.â€ÂÂ
(I bet he prays for the victims of 9-11, Madrid, and London too.)
Marwan goes on to state that his first priority is to fight for Islam (that peaceful religion). Second: to become a martyr and bag those 72 virgins. Only third is any commitment to Iraq the country... and of course, his goal is an Islamic state with no freedom of anything.
Makes you real sympathetic to their religious furvor, it sure done do. So glad those 1% (generouse estimate, GM!) of imams are condemning this terrorism crap. Why aren't they ALL?

Good post, GM, and I'm glad you left the post about condemnations.
My feeling is that I don't want pretty words so much as I want action.
I want Islam to change so that a woman does not get death threats for wanting to lead a prayer service, for instance. I want mullahs and ordinary citizens to report fake charities and radical political imams to the FBI. I want each person to refuse to harbor or aid anyone who is a radical. I want the good imams to form an association of "reformed" imams to get control of mosques away from the bad guys.
The time for talk is past.

Among Marwan's many disappointments is likely to be the bit about the virgins. Some prominent Islamic linguists have said that the original word used was actually one which refers to white raisins, which were a great delicacy at the time. So, "Here's your ever-refilling coupla boxes of Sun Maid. Enjoy!" (It actually makes a lot more sense of the context, too.)

@PJ,
My feeling is that I don't want pretty words so much as I want action.
This is an understandable feeling.
If I may add a few items to the wish list, I don't want researchers and lab technicians to be assassinated by animal rights activists. I want ordinary citizens to report radical animal lovers to the FBI. I want each person to refuse to harbor or aid anyone who is a radical animal lover. I want the American Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals form an association of "reformed" animal lovers to get control of its chapters and all related organizations away from the bad guys.
Oh, and the time for talk is past. Almost forgot that part.

Jassalasca Jape, I hope you mean the American Society for the PREVENTION of Cruelty to Animals. If you do, I agree with your post.
