Scams Galore.... Sigh!
Isuppose everybody with an email address has received at least one copy of the infamous Nigerian Scam. You know, the one that begins with something like "My name is Obo Nedibobo, Manager of the Central National First bank of Nigeria. I manage the investment funds of Chief Jojo Umgahawa of Lagos who recently passed away with no heir........" Just send them your SS number and/or your bank account and password numbers and they will share that 25 or 35 million with you. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Sometimes I send them rather colorful replies, sometimes I just delete. Today, I received a different "Nigerian" scam letter, this one purportedly from an American Soldier in Iraq:
Hey this is sgt 1st Class Steve Devo, an american soldier of 1-22 Infantry Battalion currently serving in Iraq.I am writing this message from bagdad in Iraq.we hit Iraq may 2003 and have moved around a few times building up f.o.b.'s around the western side of the country as well as missions into Bagdad.With attacks by insurgents everyday We managed to move funds belonging to Saddam Hussien's family.If the misspellings and grammar weren't enough of a tipoff, the "silver box" would be. Oh please, why can't these scam artists get a little more original.The total amount is US$25 Million dollars in cash,mostly 100 dollar
bills.We want to move this money out of iraqi. no strings attached, just help us recieve it, Iraq is a warzone although partially ended. We plan on using diplomatic courier to ship the money out in one large silver box, using diplomatic immunity.Therefore,If you are the type that can pull this string,kindly get back to me ASAP through email.As soon as i receive your positive reply,I shall furnish you with further details..

Dear Sgt Devo, too bad your spelling is so atrocious, too bad your grammar is so poor. Too bad I own a website and posted your e-mail for the world to see and laugh at. Right. There is nothing quite so "confidential" as sending out millions of emails. This would be funny were it not so pathetic.

Now you've lost me on this one, why would you respond to a mass mailing from a scam artist? If one is to spend anytime on the matter,it's best handled by putting that scammer in the filter quarantine.

Fess up, GM, Steve is actually just a faux non-person, right? You write the stuff so you have someone on the other side of the net to smack to proverbial tennis ball to, yes? A clever scam.
Hey, hey, Steve, put down that baseball bat! I was kidding. Besides, engaging in violence, either physically or rhetorical, would seem to fly in the face of the sometimes pacific Left, yes, no?

That's right. Aren't you into some kind of fish worship where you catch the fish, say special prayers, and release them? I remember the gist of it but not the details.

That's right, I use bread to pull them in gently [NO HOOKS!!!], make a Haiku and an offering to the plants and lake [or sea], and then throw the fish back into its natural environment and prepare a meal of tofu salad. I chop the tofu up into little star shaped pieces, which my two year old son delights in. I call them 'peace goodies'.
