Short Survey on Presidents
Okay, it' going to be light today because I spent some time with my youngest son.
Now, let's do a short survey. I'm going to give you a short list of presidents and you rank them in order of best to worst. I promise that this will be easy. Okay, here's the list:
Ronald Reagan
Bill Clinton
Okay, start. (I said it was short.)
..........................
Got that? Now, one more. Considering all the presidents in the history of country, whom do you consider the best? I've seen lists like this and knew that they were made by history professors in our liberal academia. I think we can do better. Think it over and give your choice and reasons.
This will help you:
The best president of the United States was __________________________ because __________________________________ (and, perhaps the fact that he wasn't a Democrat.)
I'll give my answers later, after you have had a chance.
Got your pencils? You may begin.

I picked a "modern" Prez as I know more about them than those older chaps.

Survey #1: Tie.
Survey #2: Franklin Roosevelt, because he knew how to lead, and he knew who to hire. With and honorable mention to Dwight Eisenhower, because he put national interest above party interest.

So difficult. FDR lead the country out of WWII and the Depression. Lincoln led the country out of Civil War and ended Slavery. Washington, Jefferson, and Adams founded the country. Sheesh, how do you not vote for those guys? Well, here's how:
As a conservative-minded fellow I will make my selection based on who did the least harm - which, on its own, is good. Orwell might write this as "Less is More.".
The best president of the United States was Calvin Coolidge because he did the least (harm).
A quotation from "Silent Cal":
"If you see ten troubles coming down the road, you can be sure that nine will run into the ditch before they reach you."

What makes this a hard test is that “great president†depends upon the circumstances of his own time. As far as “foreign policy†is concerned, I would have to say Theodore Roosevelt because he first placed America on the steps of world leadership, and then Ronald Reagan because he restored our sense of national patriotism and pride. Domestically, Abe Lincoln and Eisenhower, but again, for reasons that only make sense in the context of when they served. Finally, Kinky Friedman because . . .

Clinton did a far better job of cutting apart what remained of AFDC than Reagan ever was able to. If it weren't for Monica he woulda beaten Bush to privatizing social security. Hard call to make.

Clinton was closer to bush than most people want to give him credit for.

George Washington. Sacrificial servant to the people. Gave more than he got. Are there any other Presidents who could claim the same?
I think not.
