BASEBALL WARS
Oh my, the WORLD CHAMPION (I bet that was fun to type...ed)Boston Red Sox took on the New York Yankees in Fenway Park for the first home game of the season, and handed the Yanks a bitter loss. From the New York Yankies OFFICIAL website comes this bon mott:
"Before Monday's Fenway opener, the Red Sox received their 2004 World Series championship rings. Then Boston went out and played like champions, handing the Yankees an 8-1 loss in the first of three games between the two rivals."Ahhh, the sweet smell of Victory!!!
Game 4: 8-1 RED SOX
Yankees: Win-2 Lose-2
Red Sox: Win-2 Lose-2
Play Ball!

I have to say the Yankees showed themselves to be classy people and a classy organization with their behavior in the pre-game, championship celebrating ceremony. They stood (or sat, as Joe Torre did) in the dugout and, EVEN, politely applauded from time to time. Of course, Joe led the way by setting up shop on the second step of the dugout as the ceremony began.
Whether in sport or life there is no more difficult thing to do than suppress the urge to gloat when you win and whine when you lose. Those that can do both are deserving of admiration, praise, and respect - even if you are a lifelong Red Sox fan, as I am, who has experienced misery and heartbreak at their hands.

TMS... Didn't get a chance to watch but my wife tells me that the Yanks were a class act. I'm still glad the Sox won though. On the other hand, if ALL FANS could be as classy as SOME players/mangers, wouldn't this be a terrific game?

It is a terrific game but, yes, it would be better if some miscreant fans displayed a better sense of sportsmanship. There is little in sport that irks me more than boorish, unsportsmanlike, and disrespectful behavior. A good example of this are the Red Sox fans who chant "Yankees Suck" at Red Sox/Yankees games. Childish and inexcusable.
Years ago I coached youth sports and always told my players to work hard, do their best to win, and respect their opponent. After all, without the opponent there wouldn't be a game to play.
Go Sox! Can't wait to see Schilling pitch today.
