The Democrat Party has a series of problems, and worse, they are entirely of their own making.
Part of the problem began with Murtha/Reid's shouting to the rooftops that the United States were defeated in Iraq, that we couldn't win, that we were in a quagmire. This was compounded with their heated rhetoric regarding the surge, their multiple attempts to end the war via legislation (albeit legislation that was all but guaranteed to fail), carping about President Bush and his cabal of neo-cons and the whipping of the fires of discontent by the winds of the net-roots.
Then came an attempt to purge the party of any stalwart pro-war elements (in specific Joe Lieberman) who though he lost the Democrat nomination, stomped his Democrat rival quite handily in the general election. The over heated rhetoric of the net-roots over defeating Lieberman in the Primary didn't hold through the election.
As the "surge" proved the wisdom of the strategy and General Petraeus was set to testify before congress, more accusations of Bush's poodle hit the media. "He will only read a pre-approved report" claimed the Democrats. "He can't be trusted" and he is "General Betray Us" said the net-roots, by now beginning to be called the nut-roots. But Petraeus clearly denied this in his sworn testimony:
At the outset, I would like to note that this is my testimony. Although I have briefed my assessment and my recommendations to my chain of command, I wrote this testimony myself. It has not been cleared by, nor shared with the Pentagon, the White House or Congress.
Came the day of reckoning and the General testified regarding the successes brought about by US forces, by an increasing awareness of the Iraqi people that Al Qaeda really didn't give a damn about the people and the change was termed "The Awakening" and it began to happen all over Iraq.
Senators, Kennedy, Clinton and others didn't really want to question Petraeus, because they were deathly afraid of the answers he would give. They used their time to hurl invective and cast doubt on his testimony. Senator Clinton's fatuous remark ""Despite what I view is your rather extraordinary efforts in your testimony both yesterday and today, I think that the reports that you provide to us really require a willing suspension of disbelief," was about as venomous a remark as has been made in a political setting in a long time.
And now, today, almost everyone (even the New York Times) is noting the substantial progress that the so called "surge" has produced and the able leadership of General Petraeus. Oh Noes, what to do?
Simple, change the subject: "The violence has decreased, good, but there is little to no political change seen and we need to get out of Iraq." But the public doesn't seem to be buying the change in Democrat tactics. And I call it tactics because the Democrats surely have no strategy. Even after they have complained for four years that there is no Bush strategy in Iraq you would think that they would come up with one. Nope, not so far!
And this is troubling on a number of levels. First, because it lends credence that the Democrat party is more about sound-bytes than solutions, more about appearance than policy, more about what is good for the Democrat Party than what is good for the United States. Secondly, because the average voting Joe and Jane is beginning to see through the charade. America is paying attention to "...that man behind the curtain," as it were.
The Democrats have also tripped themselves up on the economy. Back in '92 as the "boom" was beginning, Bill Clinton's "War Room" made a big deal about the motto "Its About The Economy, Stupid." and lo and behold it worked. Clinton fooled the American people into thinking the economy was tanking, despite the numbers. Of course, the media helped with this, not by forecasting a recession necessarily, but by asking the question: "Is a recession headed our way," or comments similar in nature. Now, despite some fairly rapid changes in numbers both up and down, the forecast is for a booming economy in the short run and no reason to think otherwise in the long. People are noticing and are not afraid to spend. This despite the stentorious comments regarding a housing slump, a decrease in sales in big ticket items and a fairly substantial increase in oil prices.
Americans are also getting tired of issues involving illegal aliens which the Democrat party counts on for votes from primarily the Hispanic population. They are tired of the P.C. kowtowing to Muslim pressure for special dispensations and privileges; privileges not advanced to other religious groups. And the American People are tired of both Democrats and Republicans spending habits, especially as it is applied to the practice of ear-marks or porkbarrell spending.
Interestingly enough, while Congress as a whole has, at 11% approval, it's lowest rating ever, many individual congressmen are considered to be in safe seats because they do in fact bring home the bacon to their constituents. And this is a connundrum for any party trying to unseat a particular congress-critter.
But I digress, this is about the Democrat Party and its multiple stupidities. I'll have another on Republican stupidities at a later date. Doubtless neither party will pay particular attention to this post, but it needs to be said anyway.
Again, I digress. It may be that the blindness of Democrats as a whole to the points I've brought up will not affect the upcomming elections. Hillary Clinton has already been crowned according to some pundits. I don't believe that she is a Hsu-in, if you will forgive the pun, but I'm not sure she isn't either. Hillary has made a number of mistakes and slips along the way proving indeed that her feet are made of clay. Currently, the media is reporting that Obama is ahead in Iowa and while that may not sink her candidacy, it should put a few holes at the waterline.
Will the Democrats be able to pull it off, take two of the three branches of government with the power to appoint members to the third branch? Will the Republicans nominate a strong candidate who nevertheless cannot pull the base together let alone a winning majority? Can the Republicans pull it off and re-take control of one or both houses of Congress? It may be too early to tell, but the struggle will be both entertaining and illuminating.

Who, pray tell is the strong candidate that the Repubs want?
Surely you wouldn't consider Guiliani a strong candidate, but he seems to be the lead dog in that pack. It verges on hilarious that a cross dresser is the ideal for you people.
Tell me when you will stop repeating your old stale song about Hillary and the Other hopefuls, and tell the world what, if any, is the plan of the Republican Party? If the ultimate plan is just the control of the Government, all I can say is "been there, done that", and what have we to show for it? an additional four TRILLION dollars added to the national debt, a dollar that is worth 6 tenths of a Euro, and a housing (mortgage) that is on track to give wall street a king sized ulcer.
OK< now tell me that I just don't understand!!!!

Ahhh Jimmy, sometimes I think that politically you are absolutely hopeless. Then I think, no, this guy is really one hell of a smart man and I've known him all my life and admired him from the get-go. Then I think that some evil political spirit has invested the LEFT side of his brain... yeah, that must be it. OK, you want to talk politics.
I have no idea who the Repubs will nominate, nor do I particularly care. It will remain to be seen if the nominee is strong or not, just as it will remain to be seen if the Dems will. The Cross Dressing canard is typical Democrat/Leftist bull crap... it was a party and a skit.... As opposed to say Hillary's consistent taking of illegal donations, inability to stand up to the "men" because she doesn't like the "pile ons" Ohhh, yeah, that sounds real strong doesn't it... "Oh, those nasty guys are picking on me because I'm a woman... oh my, I think I feel the vapors coming on." Yeah, Right!
National Debt? Jacking it up to the sky didn't seem to matter to the Democrats for over 40 years when they had both houses of congress and the white house off and on? Why are you guys bellyaching about it now? because you think you have a campaign issue that's why and all your carping about it amounts to just another wheelbarrow full of manure.
Housing crisis? What a load of crap that one is... subprime mortages? again, when it's Dems voting for deficit spending it is OK but other people emmulating the Dems is NOT? nonsense!
It is amazing that the three "Front Runners" of the democrats (and here you are complaining about Giuliani) are A Senator who lies consistently about her records being available when she knows damn well they arent, who is banking on "deserving" the front runner status because she was the WIFE OF A PRESIDENT... what moxie that must take and who has absolutely ZERO executive experience except for when she "ran" a healthcare initative and we see how well that one worked didn't we?. Next, you have a Ilinois statehouse type with TWO friggin years experience in the senate who gave a good speech, and he thinks that this makes him strong leadership material. And lastly, Oh yeah, let's not forget brother John. More concerned with his hair for a debate than what he was going to say, a multimillionaire who talks about two america's but who has absolutely no intention of letting those in the other america near him. Who "channeled" a child with cerebral palsy in a court case to convince a jury that the cp was a result of some poor assed OB-GYN when MEDICAL SCIENCE KNOWS FOR A FACT THAT CP IS NOT CAUSED BY "dr. error" Who runs with a vietnam vet who ducks out as soon as he can finagle himself three purple hearts for wounds that were less than I received when I stubbed my toes and had to get 6 stiches.
Yeah Jimmy, you've got three real powerful front runners don't you. Well here's a question for you: "Will hillary get indicted before or after she gets nominated?"

I am sure that you know the definition of "recrimination". That seems to be the method of you repubs have as the watchword.
I worry about the state of your mind when Hillary gets elected. I think your question about her getting indicted before or after her nomination is pretty feckless considering that the present president has not yet been held to any accounting for his (I will be gentle) misstatements of fact.
I am still waiting any sign that the Republican party has a program for the country. I also despair for the political future when I read comments like the preceding one from "scrapiron".
I support his right to say such nonsense, I think he/she should rethink his/her stand.

Okay, demonrats are not all that famous for being honest or trustworthy, particularly the Clintons. See The Clinton Crime Family
There is a long list of criminal behavior with them, not to mention Teddy Kennedy and Chapaquiddik. Why people bother to vote for a party with enough corruption in it to sink a ship-and that not so long ago had a branch called the KKK, and voted against the Civil Rights Amendment, bewilders me.

Sarah Palin has deliberately left the question as to whether or not she will run in 2012 open. For those who believe a bid for the GOP nomination is still a possibility for her, The Arizona Republic provides women’s chef coats some further evidence: after months of rumors, Palin may have purchased a house in Scotsdale, Arizona. A deal on a secluded, 8,000-square-foot home in far north Scottsdale was recently closed by Safari Investments LLC for $1.695 million cash. The terms of the deal hide chef coats the identity of the owner, and when the attorney listed on the property records, Alan Kierman, was asked if Palin was the buyer, his response was an intriguing "no comment." According to the Republic, Palin has been rumored to be considering aprons headquartering her 2012 White House campaign in Scottsdale, if there is a campaign. A anonymous source from her camp also told Ben Smith at Politico that she would base a potential presidential campaign in Scottsdale, near where Bristol Palin recently bought fleece blankets a house in Maricopa.
