Now, Obama is acting like a Republican, at least the Repbulicans that the Democrats have fabricated–the ones who would re-instate a draft.

Obama Transition Team - Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year.

Call it a draft or a hidden tax on your time, whatever–for big brother.

Sorry, Marc. Slavery ended a long time ago, but, if I was “forced to volunteer,” it will be to causes that I support–not those of a socialist government.

I warned people about Obama taking away freedoms and it’s already starting. The difference between us is that you like it and I don’t.

Woody’s actually right. I have a right to be lazy. You can take my high school diploma away, but you can’t take my right to be lazy and hate my community. An hour a week in high school? There is no way you could have made me do that back then.

Well, Woody, if you think requiring young people to engage in community service by helping others and helping themselves, by making their communities a better place, by thinking of others rather than themselves, by offering them productive work instead of letting them sit around and watch tv , stuff their faces with junk food and play computer games while developing Type 2 Diabetes is “slavery” then you are not much of a conservative. You sound more like a free love do-your-own-thing hippie.

I dont think that our fathers who were drafted into World War Two were slaves either, by the way. And, no, I would NOT oppose a modern draft either as long as it was tied to universal national service. If we had such a draft we’d have much less a trigger happy government which is currently willing to enslave YOU to a $1 trillion tax bill for a useless, unwinnable war.

In some ways, I guess, I am more conservative than you are.. you seem mostly just a partisan Republican which is something else. I believe two things; Americans are not, indeed, asked to do enough for their country. And their country doesnt do enough for them.

Now, enough chatter and get your butt back to work Woody. You have to pay your taxes to support his noble war your children dont have to fight.

Imagine a kid who goes to college, comes home to watch his little brother, goes to his night job, and then comes back home early in the morning to do his homework before he gets a few hours sleep and has to go back to school. I know such a person.

When does he have time to fulfill your liberal programs? Isn’t it good that he’s making an effort to improve himself and take care of his family first? Shouldn’t families be first priority?

Isn’t it enough that liberals like to feel good with other people’s money without them feeling great by stealing other people’s time?

BTW, Marc, you might want to re-think your comparison of our war time effort against Hitler to Obama’s feel-good programs.

So this is ‘change’ to improve our embarrassing standing in the world regarding education?

So this is ‘change’ to improve education, by removing class hours and sending under-educated children into the ‘community’ for 50 hours to screw around.

This sounds like ‘change’ coming directly from the self-interested NEA teachers unions who already have a disastrous record and a life-threatening stranglehold on our educational system?

Jim R., it’s very dangerous for our government to attempt to force community service. It violates the Constitution, it would lead to forced service with radical left-wing “non-profits” like ACORN, others would be forced into social programs for the elderly and children although (ahem) “volunteers” could object to being forced and might mistreat those they’re supposed to help by taking out their anger on them, and, naturally like similar programs, the system would be fraught with waste and abuse.

Oh, but it “feels good” to those pushing the program. I wish liberals would feel good on their own time and money and let the rest of us give our time and money to churches and charities that we like, as we can and on our own timing.
