What Is This?

portion.jpgThis is a portion of a photograph that was reproduced on this blog some 17 months or so ago. Can you tell me from whence it came? Woody has selected a prize (most likely a Video of "Sweating to the Oldies" (insert very big grin here) and you can pay NOT to have the prize delivered if you guess correctly.

Have fun.

1 I believe the source is a 9/11 photo of the Twin Towers (taken at the moment the second plane crashed and exploded in a fireball) which you posted on June 2, 2005.

2 CT beat me to it. I thought right away that it looked like ashes which sent me back through your archives to see if I was right.

3 Nope to both of you... good guess though, but incorrect.

6 (sidenote to Woody, re: Won't Get Fooled Again post at Coopers...)

Don't ya know, that's the song I had going through my head on 11/08 and since? Sometimes it seems like only music cuts through all the mainstream b.s.

8 GM - for the last time, please stop posting photos of your kidney stones on the blog, we have seen enough!

As for the prize, I will not pay to stop delivery, but will you pay to keep me from "popping in" to your show with it playing LOUDLY in the background?

10 Smokey, I'll have to think about it... hmmm, the joy of having smoky call in vs the background noise of Richard Simmons... oh, the choices we have to make...

Everyone is wrong so far...

11 I'm guessing that it has something to do with the Red Sox--possibly when they were awarded their World Series rings at the first game of the new season. The clue is so great that I don't know how anyone could miss it.

The prize will be determined based upon the ultimately disclosed difficulty of the answer. It could be as good as the Richard Simmons tapes or as bad as the air filter that I replaced in my furnace.

16 Everyone's guess is WAY off base so far... but Ahmed's is the funniest.

I'll post the answer on the evening of the 27th sometime. Keep going folks, your answers are a) thoughtful, b) wistful, c) wishful thinking or d) hilarious.

17 GM, save us all any more bother and simply declare Michael Moore the winner - and send him Sweating to the Oldies as a prize.

18 Meanwhile, a look at Thanksgiving menus from around the country...

Texas: Plump, juicy armadillo (a.k.a. roadkill on the halfshell) with a pinon nut stuffing. For extra fun, substitute crushed peyote buttons for pinon nuts.

Georgia: Succulent opposum, stewed in its own juices. Sure to be greedily consumed, ironically enough, by beer infused college football fans stewed in their own juices.

Nevada: Jerked rattlesnake, served with a side dish of radioactive mercury mine tailings (available at guv'ment outpost stores throughout the state). The glow you see on the horizon is not entirely neon.

19 Jim, nice Thanksgiving menus. Speaking of "beer infused college football fans," this past weekend I went to a college game in Alabama and some fans for the other team were all around me--and drinking!!!! A friend told me to quit giving them a hard time, because they were about to start a fight. In Alabama, football is more important than whoever is elected for Congress or President.

Back to the menus, we once had a maid who brought some possum from home and offered to share it with us. Once you see and smell that, it becomes clear why a turkey is a better choice for Thanksgiving. BTW, Thursday is my birthday, so take the day off for the occasion.

Back to G.M.'s picture, it looks more like a piece of paper after wiping shoe soles to remove what was stepped in.

Oh, I have to go. The news just came on and some woman who is 92 years old engaged in a shoot-out with police. She hit three of them and they killed her. If they had just waited, she would have died of old age. This is a crazy world.

20 Jim, I carry a can of white spray paint in my car. Whenever, I go somewhere I paint a circle around any dead possums and raccoons I see on the road. On the way home, if I see one that doesn't have a circle around it, I know it's fresh and stop and pick it up for supper. Yum! An old trick I learned growing up in Tennessee.

21 DADvocate reminds me of the old joke, "How many (name your team) fans does it take to eat a possum?" Answer: Three, one to eat it and the other two to watch for cars.

G.M., it's time to reveal the answer.
