Newly Discovered Blog

One of the delightful things about the internet is the chance to randomly read blogs on bloggers bloglists. You get a lot of reading done that way, learn quite a bit if you are open to other's ideas and thoughts and can generally have a great time.

Today, I started with one of the links from my site, to another link, to another and to another and came across this one hosted by One John Jay Ray who notes that he is a

"...former member of the Australia-Soviet Friendship Society, former anarcho-capitalist and former member of the British Conservative party."

At any rate, Dr. Ray takes after the left much better than anything at DU or Moveon.org does at taking after the right. Go, Read, Enjoy and tell him GM Sent you.

1 I've been visiting "Dissecting Leftism" daily for months now and I think I can fairly say that he expresses his views in an intellectual way based on facts - and I find that very appealing. Which is not to say he always gets it right, just that he takes a fairminded approach and doesn't stoop to name calling and vitriol.

I've tried reading leftist blogs and such but am usually scared off by the hate speech. I don't like it and it is unnecessary. I can't recall a time when Mr. Ray has engaged in that sort of thing.

TMS.... Before writing up the post on Disecting Leftism I read his blog for a while. I too noted that there is a definate lack of name calling EXCEPT for the terms leftist and leftism. But, I also note that the libs/left/progressive type object to that name calling the most. I don't understand it... When I'm called a conservative or neo-con or hawk or some such, my first thought is "Right, they got it right." What do you suppose is going on with these folk?

Never mind, that last was a rhetorical question. ;-)

2 Well, rhetorical or not I'll answer this way: when they say conservative/neo-con/hawk or some such they intend it as an insult. So, when I use Left or Liberal or whatever they assume I am attempting to insult or smear them. I bet there is a fancy term or concept in your field to describe that sort of behavior.

The flip side of this is that when Dissecting Leftism uses the words Leftist & Leftism I assume they are simple descriptives, and so, maybe ignorantly, don't find the use offensive.

I agree Steve, I see no reason why the left objects to the term. Just as I couldn't understand why Dukakis objected to the term in 98. What did he think he was? Conservative? LOL

5 Hey. Here's to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes... the ones who see things differently -- they're not fond of rules... You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can't do is ignore them because they change things... they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do.
