Pretty offensive, isn't it? Of course, the protestors are pretty stupid, too.
It's ironic that they used a petroleum product to fuel the fire. Where do they think that we get most of our oil based products?
Besides being crude (not as in oil) and anti-U.S., what is it about the Left that they engage in endless chants and use trite slogans? In case you're curious as to where they get their chants (and, who isn't?!), check out these samples: .
Smash the Pentagon and not Iraq!
What do we do, stand up, fight back!
Hey hey ho ho,
Imperialist War has Got to Go!
President Bush You Can't Hide
We Charge You with Genocide!
The real terrorist in the World today,
The Pentagon and the CIA.
George W., what do you say
Blood for Oil is really the way!
George W., what do you say
Care to send the twins today!
If you're greedy and you know it, bomb Iraq (clap clap)
If you're greedy and you know it, bomb Iraq (clap clap)
If you're greedy and you know it,
George Bush will surely show it
If you're greedy and you know it, bomb Iraq.
I asked for universal health care
and all I got was this lousy stealth bomber
Let's bomb Texas, they have oil too
Draft dodgers shouldn't start wars
Fighting for peace is like f___ing for virginity
War is not a family value
US Out of Iraq
Let them have their country back!
This Occupation is a crime -
George and Rummy should be doin' time
Bring all the troops home now
No WMDs were ever found
They stay and fight for Bush's Lies
And every day another dies
Money for Jobs and Education,
Not for War and Occupation!
Hell, no! We won't go!
We won't die for Texaco!
And, if that isn't enough, the United Nations sponsors a site for anti-war songs: New Songs for Peace, endorsed by the anti-West and anti-U.S. UNESCO:
The objective of this UNESCO-endorsed project is to encourage people to think about peace, define what it means to them, and write a new song for peace. This project is in response to the UN proclamation that the 2001-2010 decade be the "International Decade for a Culture of Peace and Non-Violence for the Children of the World".
We couldn't end this without some liberal group saying that "peace is for the children." Maybe they need to learn that freedom is for the children, too, and that you can't have freedom unless you're willing to fight to defend it.
Well, here's my own chant to the Left.
Chants and slogans just go so far,
Support our troops to win this war.
Hey, it's not great, but I haven't had nearly the practice that they have had.
So, give us your reaction to the video and, perhaps, share your best chant.

Here's one summary from The Portland Tribune, in which they also descibe a man defecating on a burning U.S. flag.
Little Green Footballs seemed to have jumped on this early.
Right behind them was left-wing Daily Kos, in which the commenters immediately saw a right-wing conspiracy trying to make the Left look bad, some suspected that Karl Rove was behind it, and some deny that this actually took place. Here are representative comments from that site:
quite possibly, the perpatrator was some right-winger who had someone post the pictures to all the right-wing sites. I suspect a setup.
If this were true, who gives a f**k?
What seems strange to me is that IF this burning took place. Why is there nothing in the local media.
Just like the 60's - divide and conquer. It is Rove twisted disinformation. Pay people to make the anti-war people look bad.
I don't think we need to adress the right winger's hysteria on this becuase it's irrational.

Hey, they did this, not us. Take some responsibility for the nuts on your side, for which there are a lot more than on ours.--Woody
I have to admire Woody's perseverance. People like JE will never 'take responsibility' for the poltroons who dot his favored political landscape with disturbing frequency. It's always a big CONSPIRACY to 'discredit' the well-meaning but misunderstood 'progressive' citizenry. A very SMALL minority is always exploited by the malicious 'right'.
But we can't 'question their patriotism', I have heard. And to be frank I have actually come around to pretty much agreeing with that prohibition. It took me a while but I now think that we really can't 'question their patriotism'. However the reasons for that are entirely another matter.
But as I said I have to admire Woody's tenacity in searching for the 'last honest progressive'. Perhaps Diogenes can lend you that lantern if he no longer has need of it.

Another Woody special... These people are not representative of mainstream liberals. They aren't even representative of most radicals. If we have to 'take responsibility' for these people then you guys have to adopt the KKK and Timothy McVeigh. It's only fair...

For this instance and to his credit, an author at Daily Kos came down on these idiots, but the commenters, who are more representative of the people from that side, blamed Karl Rove. Sometimes, you have to look at who has crawled into bed with you and then decide if you want to get a new bed.

There is an additional point, however. The hard left in general and progressives in particular should be leading the charge on the criticism of this. Waving it off as an exception is an inadequate response if you want to convince me of your (general, not moose and Jack) affection for this country and civil debate. No one stopped him. Some even cheered.
