Liberals Feeling Good with Liberal Charities

Liberals feel good spending other people's money for social causes.  How do they spend their own money for "charities?"

NY Post Reviews 10 Celebrity Charities and Finds Eyebrow-Raising Business Practices

The New York Post reports that George Clooney, Bono, Wyclef Jean, Petra Nemcova and a half-dozen other celebrities have founded charities that have some eyebrow-raising business practices.

Jean's charity to help Haitians has allegedly failed to file tax returns for eight years. Bono's mega-foundation is reported to have chartered a plane to Africa and bought tickets for a U2 concert.  Poker lover George Clooney allegedly took donations from a dubious online card-games company. And Giant Super Bowl hero Osi Umenyiora is reported to have dropped the ball when it comes to even registering his charity to benefit Africa and research into Alzheimer's disease.

Below are the 10 celebrity charities that raised red flags, according to a Post examination of federal tax forms and other records, and the alleged shorcomings: (Link to article).

Sure, the money is wasted on questionable causes, but liberal donors "feel good," and that's what matters.

On the other hand, they want us to "feel patriotic" by paying higher taxes.  Is there a way that I can feel patriotic with their money, or does it not work that way?

A Good Read - Addressing "Offended" Liberals

The Offensiveness of Taking Offense (Selections)

Screaming "That's offensive!" is nothing but a ploy.  (Liberals) just don't happen to like what you're saying.  Liberals trade on this ploy, using it as a standard response whenever their sacred cows come under scrutiny.  A translation of what they really mean to say will illustrate why:

"I hate what you're saying, it makes me angry and you should shut your mouth! [expletives omitted]"
And the "Offensiveness Ploy" (OP) is ideal, as it shifts the onus from them to you.  A direct command to still your tongue would make them appear the villains, intolerant, immature, imperious clods, incapable of brooking dissent.  It would be offensive.  But the OP makes you seem the offensive one.

But in a bastion of liberalism (universities), where accountability is as absent as sensibility, ...here's (the)  message (of students who shout down conservative speakers):
"I hate what you're saying, it makes me angry and you should shut your mouth!  And you're going to shut your mouth whether you like it or not.  We don't have to take it anymore [expletives omitted]."
Tyrants agree: the easiest way to win a debate is to prevent the other side from debating.

Thus, there is a lesson here we ignore at our own peril.  You can have freedom from being offended or you can have freedom of speech, but you cannot have both.

The great victory of the left is that it has made us apologize for being right.  A few may be truly offended, being in the grip of primitive pride.  But, mostly, we are in the grip of a primitive ploy.  We need more offensiveness, not less.  We must offend the liars, the degraded, the darkness, the destroyers of civilization.

So my answer to the offended is, you have every right to be offended.  Now, grow up.  If you can't sit at the table of reasoned debate, go back to your bread and circuses.  Let the adults figure out the problems of the world.

Typical Rude, Ranting, Deranged, Interrupting Liberals

It's so typical.  Liberals speak their minds freely, but they insist on continuing to speak...and yell and shout and interrupt when it's turn for their opponents to have the floor--like this and this and this and this and this and this and this and this and this and this and this and this and this and this and this and this...and they actually have a course on how to do it--but, here's how one great guy handled such a situation.  What is it with liberal protesters that makes them think that no one has a right to hear other views?

Today's Scene:  Woman Heckles Sen. John McCain

At least Sen. McCain took it in stride didn't require the police to taser her, bro.

Should Title IX Affect Math & Science Careers As It Has Sports?

Do you remember when Lawrence Summers, the President of Harvard University was drummed off of campus for speculating as to why fewer women than men succeed in math and science careers?   Radical women went apoplectic.  Now, these radical women are saying that it's true that women don't succeed in those careers and that the cause is sexism, and that can only be cured by applying the same Title IX rules to careers as applies to making men and women equal in college sports.

Read up on it so that you'll understand why, one day, we must have a woman President to balance out the men.  (Oh, wait.)  And, oh yes, you also should be forcing young girls to play with trucks--no kidding.

Women earn most of America’s Ph.D.’s, but they lag in the physical sciences. Beware of plans to fix the ‘problem.

By Christina Hoff Sommers, a resident scholar at the American Enterprise Institute. March/April, 2008 Issue of "The American"

(Excerpts) Why, in fact, are there so few women in the high echelons of academic math and in the physical sciences?

Women now earn 57 percent of bachelors degrees and 59 percent of masters degrees. (But, women) comprise just 19 percent of tenure-track professors in math, 11 percent in physics, 10 percent in computer science, and 10 percent in electrical engineering.

Debra Rolison, a physical chemist at the Naval Research Laboratory..., who describes herself as an “uppity woman,” has a solution.  ...(Click on "more" to continue)

More Evidence That Liberals Lack Sense of Humor

Gov. Huckabee was on Saturday Night Live in a skit making fun of his not knowing when to get out.  As part of the skit, which is pretty funny and its video shown below, he doesn't leave the scene when expected.  Who wouldn't find that funny?  Well, some liberals don't.

Here's what an Associate Press journalist wrote the next morning.

NEW YORK - Even though Mike Huckabee is still battling for the Republican presidential nomination despite long odds, he said Saturday he won't "overstay his welcome."

Then he did precisely that, lingering on the "Weekend Update" set of "Saturday Night Live" despite repeated cues to leave the stage.

Are they that stupid or clueless, or is it that the writer is trying to be funny but isn't?  It's no wonder that liberals think conservatives are strange.  They can't even tell when we're putting them on.  It must be sad going through life having to be miserable and take everything so seriously.  But, maybe I might feel that way if I depended upon government to support me, too.

Top psychiatrist concludes liberals are clinically nuts!

Of course, you didn't need to read the title or hear it from a psychiatrist to already know that it's true.

Liberalism is a Mental Disorder

Dr. Lyle Rossiter, author of the new book, The Liberal Mind: The Psychological Causes of Political Madness, (says,) "Like spoiled, angry children, they rebel against the normal responsibilities of adulthood and demand that a parental government meet their needs from cradle to grave."

"The roots of liberalism – and its associated madness – can be clearly identified by understanding how children develop from infancy to adulthood and how distorted development produces the irrational beliefs of the liberal mind," he says. "When the modern liberal mind whines about imaginary victims, rages against imaginary villains and seeks above all else to run the lives of persons competent to run their own lives, the neurosis of the liberal mind becomes painfully obvious."

The Left Coast Supports Whose Troops?

Berkeley, California Initiative Targets Military Recruitment

(Selections - Emphasis Mine) If passed by a majority of Berkeley voters, a proposed initiative would require military recruiting offices and private military companies in Berkeley to first acquire a special use permit.  If the initiative passes, recruitment offices could not be opened within 600 feet of residential districts, public parks, public health clinics, public libraries, schools or churches.

"In the same way that many communities limit the location of pornographic stores, that's the same way we feel about the military recruiting stations," said PhoeBe sorgen, an initiative proponent and a member of the city's Peace and Justice Commission. "Teenagers that really want to find them will be able to seek them out and find them, but we don't want them in our face."

In addition to making it more difficult for future military recruiting centers to be established, Spring also said she would support action that would remove the current office, which is in her district.

Funny.  I thought that the Marines were protecting their youth.  Whose side are these people on?  Nevermind.  After all, this is Berkeley and California.  To them, the military and smut peddlers are the same.

And, if the people of Berkeley want protection but don't want it from our military, maybe they should put a giant condom over their town.  That's what I would use to cover a bunch of d#&kheads.

Just Give Me A Corner To Die In

The United Kingdom's NHS (National Health Service) is considering the rationing of health care.  This is nothing new and has been talked about numerous times as the Democrats and their leftish friends push for a National Health Care policy in these United States.

Tom Smith writing at The Right Coast notes that "There's something very strange going on in the UK.  It's getting to the point where it's not even funny anymore." How right you are Tom, and it is only a peek at what will happen in the US if we impose NHC on ourselves.

As a health care provider I offer mental health services to all and sundry.  I choose not to accept commercial insurance, but I am willing to complete the paperwork for a patient to send to his insurance company and receive reimbursement.  The insurance is a contract between the patient and the company, not me.  The only health insurance that I am willing to accept is medicaid because I believe that the poorest among us also deserve quality care.

Seventy-five years ago, this issue wasn't even on the horizon.  Most folk paid their medical bills via payments, barter or per visit on the spot.  Then came the unions insisting that health insurance be a part of the negotiations and bingo, employer provided health insurance became the norm.

As time went on, more and more employers gave in to the idea, and as tort lawyers lobbed onto suing health care providers as a way to get rich quick (does John Edwards come to mind?  Hmmmm?) a number of docs and other health care providers began ordering every imaginable test so that no one could say they weren't being zealous in their care of the patient.  This of course has driven medical care costs through the roof, and subsequently health insurors began rationing care based on sometimes nothing more than a whim.  For example, I once had an insurance company authorize only 3 sessions for a depressed patient and that was the limit, despite the patient's history of suicidal thinking.  I was able to get that decision overturned, but only after many, many hours of negotiations and documentation.  And people wonder why I don't take insurance anymore.  Hah, I'd rather take 1/2 of my regular fee in cash than get the full fee after several hours of insurance required stuff.

So now, the Democrats want to emulate the English.  They claim health care is a right, that the insurance companies are making a fortune, that the poor lack access to health care.  Well, insurance companies do fairly well, but then that is because of their investments more than anything.  As to the poor lacking access, nonsense, what they lack is insurance.  Any person can go to just about any emergency room with just about any complaint and get treatment and never pay a dime for it.  What they can't do, and this is part of a very real problem is make an appointment with a Doc and go to the office.  I solve that problem by doing some pro-bono work.  I limit it, but I'll do it because I think it right.

However the Democrats won't let me have that choice, nor any other health care provider.  In England the rationing is already being talked about:

In a New Year message to NHS staff, the Prime Minister indicates people may have to fulfil new "responsibilities" in order to establish their entitlement to care.

Women smoking;
Conditional treatment: Smokers are one group of patients that may be asked to change their habits

The new conditions could be set out in a formal NHS "constitution", Mr Brown says.

In his open letter to doctors, nurses and other health workers, the Prime Minister promises to press on with Tony Blair's reforms of the NHS, pledging more personalised care for all patients.

He adds: "We will also examine how all these changes can be enshrined in a new constitution of the NHS, setting out for the first time the rights and responsibilities associated with an entitlement to NHS care."

Well, healthy habits should be encouraged by health care providers, and of course, we all have some responsibility in our health, but for Pete's Sake, mandated?  What ever happened to freedom to choose?  Let me give an unlikely, but entirely possible example."  Let's say you are a smoker, I can understand you being charged more for your insurance, and I don't have a whole lot of sympathy for the cost of treatment for a large number of illnesses, and I'm a recovering lung cancer patient.  I know what the personal and monitary costs of stupid behavior are up close and personal.  But let's say you are a smoker, you don't smoke around your children or in your house or car, but your child has asthma.  How would you feel if your child was denied care because of the "smell" of smoke on your clothes may (or may not) have contributed to the asthma?  Now, anyone with any sense would say wow, active asthma of course I would quit smoking.  And yet, some people are absolutely unable to do so.

Do we tell the poor who tend to have more physical illnesses than more wealthy folk "Sorry, your poor choices of food, tobacco, alcohol, fill in the blank have made treatment for you impossible?"

Do we tell the elderly that "Sorry, your age makes you a poor candidate for open heart surgery?"

Do we empty the nursing homes because some of those patients won't ever get better?

Do we pull a Terri Schiavo on our handicapped because afterall, most handicapps are life long?

The fact of the matter is, that eventually choices must be made because as one commenter at Tom Smith's article noted it is either on the front end with insurance or on the back end with national health care.  And, despite the Democrat pie in the sky dreaming, we cannot possibly provide all health care to all people in the country at any reasonable cost.  There will always be gaps, there will always be patients who fall through the gaps.

I chortled not too long ago when some of the facetious Democrat rabble rousers in congress were inveighing against the Veterans Administration for the "poor" health care provided to vets, and these are the folk that want to nationalize health care?  Who the hell do they think runs the VA health care system if not the government.

A friend of mine recently sent me a link to THIS website that contained the following:

Comptroller General of the United States David Walker recently gave a speech titled A Call For Stewardship

word for word:

Candidly, our current deficit and debt levels are not unduly troubling as a percentage of our national economy. However, these deficit levels and related debt burdens are set to escalate dramatically in the near future due to the retirement of the "baby boomers" and rising health care costs. The fact is, absent meaningful reforms, America faces escalating deficit levels and debt burdens that could swamp our ship of state!

This brings me to the longer-range picture. Believe it or not, the federal government’s total liabilities and unfunded commitments for future benefits payments promised under the current Social Security and Medicare programs are now estimated at $53 trillion, in current dollar terms, up from about $20 trillion in 2000. This translates into a defacto mortgage of about $455,000 for every American household and there’s no house to back this mortgage! In other words, our government has made a whole lot of promises that, in the long run, it cannot possibly keep without huge tax increases.

The Medicare program alone represents about $34 trillion of our current $53 trillion fiscal gap. If there is one thing in particular that could bankrupt America, it’s runaway health care costs. And don’t forget, the first "baby boomers" will begin to draw their early retirement benefits under Social Security in a couple of weeks! And, just three years later, they will be eligible for Medicare. When "baby boomers" begin to retire in big numbers, it will bring a tsunami of spending that, unlike most tsunamis, will never recede.

Get the picture?  And the Democrats want to add to that debt.  I don't know about you, but this household doesn't have an extra $455,000.00.  Grow up America, if you want to keep the high quality health care that we have overall then we absolutely have to reform government and get the big spenders out of office! Until then, if the Democrats take over health care, I won't get any of it except maybe a corner to die in. and if you are young, you might not even get that much.

Update:  Changed England to United Kingdom.

Scratch Barbara Walters Off of Your Christmas Card List

Barbara Walters went on "The View" and took offense at the religious (of all things) Christmas card that she received from President and Mrs. Bush.

"Usually, in the past, when I've received Christmas cards, it's been 'Happy Holidays' and so on. And this says, 'You alone are the LORD. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you.' It's from Nehemiah in the Old Testament.  I don't remember and I'm sure people will remind me, getting a religious card. Now does this also go to agnostics, and atheists, and Muslims?"

Barbara, just stick the card back in the envelope and write "refused-return to sender" across it.  We don't want you or anyone else to be upset by the President wishing you a Merry Christmas.

I guess Barbara Walters will be taking a chain saw to the White House Christmas tree and later stomping on eggs at the White House Easter egg hunt.

Randi Rhodes Fell While Walking Dog... NOT Mugged!

From The New York Daily News:

"Air America radio host Randi Rhodes is temporarily off the air, but claims she was brutally attacked near her Manhattan apartment are bogus, her lawyer and a police source said today.

Fellow host Jon Elliott claimed on the liberal radio network that Rhodes had been mugged while walking her dog, Simon, on Sunday night. Elliot, who said Rhodes lost several teeth in the attack, waxed about a possible conspiracy.

"Is this an attempt by the right-wing, hate machine to silence one of our own?" he asked on the air, according to Talking Radio, a blog. "Are we threatening them? Are they afraid that we’re winning? Are they trying to silence intimidate us?"

From GM Roper:

Elliott, you need some serious health care.  Check with your fellow conspiracy nut Hillary about signing you up.
