I Wonder How Obama Would Like Some Lipstick?

So, Obama thinks its funny to compare Governor Palin to a pig does he?

"You can put lipstick on a pig," he said as the crowd cheered. "It's still a pig."

"You can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called change. It's still gonna stink."

"We've had enough of the same old thing."
I think this needs to go VIRAL... everybody who can, send a Lipstick to Senator Obama!

Here's his address

Obama for America

P.O. Box 8102

Chicago, IL 60680

Instalanche.... Thanks Glenn, dang, that was quick!

1 Not a bad idea. I'd like to send him a pot and a kettle as a valid observation on hypocrisy.

wadikitty... well, the address is the same!

4 Well, you know what they say (I say)...You can put an ape in a tuxedo- you can teach the ape to sing, dance and even use a knife and fork. However when it's all said and done, the only one who believes the camouflage is effective is the ape.

Obama is who he is and can't hide his agenda no matter how hard he tries.

Sigmund, Carl and Alfred,

Your comment sounds like something an Obama supporter (kos kid, perhaps) would post -  an "inartful" attempt to  caricature of what a they imagine a conservative would say.

On one of the you tube videos of Obama's "gaffe" there are several gleeful comments about the number (20+) of "monkey" comments there were from "right wingers" angry about what Obama said.  They also happily mentioned "monkey" comments showing up on Ben Smith's Politico blog on this controversy.

(continued on next comment due to comment size restrictions)

Posted by: wadikitty at Tuesday, September 09 2008 09:19 PM (yDp4t)

The implication was that Obama said this deliberately and his fans are loading up websites with racist comments from "right wingers".  Most of these comments call Obama a monkey or an ape.

I read many mainstream conservative sites and have never seen Obama referred to as a monkey or an ape, and now, suddenly I'm seeing this disgusting, (and stupid) racist name-calling.

I call bullshit on your comment.  Astroturfing anyone?

Posted by: wadikitty at Tuesday, September 09 2008 09:19 PM (yDp4t)

8 Great idea.  I was also going to suggest sending a check to McCain / Palin with a lipstick kiss on it.

Posted by: The Anchoress at Tuesday, September 09 2008 09:20 PM (N0hv7)

9 I've never seen those "monkey" comments, either.  I do know that CNN did a piece on Palin, tonight, where they got someone to admit he'd made up lies about her...so...there you go.

Posted by: The Anchoress at Tuesday, September 09 2008 09:22 PM (N0hv7)

10 Look, Obama's not making a gaffe; he's being coy. I watched some of his sleight-of-phrase on O'Reilly and it's amazing to watch him warm to an idea as it is leaving his lips. He's every bit as glib as Clinton, and mesmerizing to those unfamiliar with the art and craft of duplicity. He's a verbalizer as he thinks, a skill which can be very smooth, and fraught with hazards, too.

He is far too casual in his phrasing, and so can easily back down from any position when challenged. It's a technique, people. It's not "charisma" it's performance art.

Meanwhile, "guilt by association" is a valid criticism. Just ask your mom.

Posted by: Joan of Argghh! at Tuesday, September 09 2008 09:33 PM (eDdOG)

11

Anchoress,

There's been some speculation that many of these Palin smears made it out into the MSM, often reported as "fact" so quickly and widely that there was an element of coordination to it.  Astroturfing, if you will.  It seems that David Axelrod has a PR firm in Chicago, referred to as the "gold standard" in astroturf organizing.

Tonight, there has been further speculation that this was a deliberate gaffe by Obama, to generate outrage on the part of Palin supporters, and lo and behold all these comments which call Obama a "monkey" or "ape" miraculously show up.

(next comment please)

Posted by: wadikitty at Tuesday, September 09 2008 09:59 PM (yDp4t)

12

CNN and the rest of the MSM will now defend Obama's comment as just a figure of speech, one that McCain's used before, while simutaneously pointing out all of the racist comments from angry "right wingers".

Posted by: wadikitty at Tuesday, September 09 2008 10:01 PM (yDp4t)

13 How about sending lipstick and stinky fish together?

Posted by: Candide at Tuesday, September 09 2008 11:25 PM (SdIb/)

14 Thanks to all whose comments were genuine.  I haven't seen any monkey reference in conservative blogs either.  It's just a relief to find a comments section free of the nastiness.  I don't think nastiness will win anybody any points.  And while you won't ever convince me Sen. Obama didn't know exactly what he was saying... I can't prove it, so I won't go on about it.  But I know exactly what kind of person he is now.

Thanks again

Here's a great source for cheap lipstick (and free shipping)

http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=194495&catid=98645&cmbProdBrandFilter=5176&trx=CAT-0-PCOLOR&trxp1=98645&trxp2=194495&trxp3=1&trxp4=0&btrx=BUY-CAT-0-PCOLOR

Extra points if someone figures out an affilliate account that sends a portion of the purchase to Palin Defense Fund.

I read a large number of right-leaning blogs everyday and have yet to see a SINGLE "monkey" reference to Obama prior to this.

I'm even willing to give Obama a pass on his comment.  For all his alleged genius, I think he was just too dim to make the connection.  Someone get this man a teleprompter, stat!

17 wadikitty, if you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen.

If Obama can get a free shot at Palin, the reverse holds true.

The fact is that Palin is everything every leftie hates- a woman who made it to the top under her own steam, without bitching. She didn't ride her husband's coattails, she didn't have her 'choices' pre determined by a political agenda and she wasn't packaged by the Cook County Democrat machine. She doesn't owe anything to anybody.

Americans find her more authentic and likeable than Obama and for good reason. She and not Obama is the real deal.

The good news is that the more she attacked, the more popular she becomes- and there is nothing the Democrats can do to change that.

Sigmund etc....

"wadikitty, if you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen."

What heat, what kitchen?  Make some sense there, sparky.

I'm a McCain/Palin supporter.  I object to your use of the term "ape" when referring to Obama and am merely pointing out you sound an awful lot like some (immature) lefty trying to sound like his or her caricature of what a right winger would say when angry about Obama.

I merely noted that there seem to be an odd sameness to these comments and the ape references are puzzling as they are something I've never seen on mainstream right wing blogs before.

Your reaction is over-the-top.  Perhaps you're the one who should leave the kitchen.

Wadikitty, SG&A, I think we can all agree that as supporters of McCain and Palin (and believe me, the ONLY reason I'm supporting McCain is his VP pick covers up most of his ill-conceived positions on things like campaign finance reform, illegal immigration, offshore drilling, global warming etc is that we can support a conservative agenda.

Wadikitty, I've known SG&A for a very long time, as fellow psych-bloggers (though he is far, far better than I am at that) he doesn't have a prejudiced bone in his body.   I'm also delighted to have you join the fray on this blog, hope you will continue to read us.

It's not like the phrase has never been used before:

Last October, asked about Sen. Hillary Clinton's health care plan, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., was blunt. McCain said Clinton's proposal was "eerily" similar to the ill-fated plan she devised in 1993. "I think they put some lipstick on a pig," he said, "but it's still a pig."

Moose, it should be obvious to anyone with either a lick of sense or any degree of honesty that McCain was referring to the plan of Hillary's and not Hillary.  Obama however, obviously was calling Palin a pig.  Big difference and I think you are honest enough to acknowledge that.

26 Moose, and I fully respect your right to disagree... now, can you justify your agreement because even many on the left acknowledge that he knew exactly what he was saying and that Obama meant it.  So, pray tell, say why!

I've been busy with the resuming of classes and, therefore, just this evening have been able to listen to Obama's lipstick-on-a-pig comment.  It seems to me that he's pandering to the Southwestern Virginia audience by putting on a bit of a good-ol'-boy accent.

Obama knew full well what he was saying and intended to insult Palin, IMO.  And the audience's reaction bears out my contention.

Full context of the "lipstick on a pig" quote:

Let's just list this for a second. John McCain says he's about change, too. Except -- and so I guess his whole angle is, "Watch out, George Bush, except for economic policy, health-care policy, tax policy, education policy, foreign policy, and Karl Rove-style politics. We're really gonna shake things up in Washington." That's not change. That's just calling some -- the same thing, something different. But you know, you can -- you know, you can put lipstick on a pig; it's still a pig.

Obama wasn't talking about Sarah Palin at all but about John McCain's policies which were well formulated long before Sarah Palin even joined the ticket.

[Split into two comments due to limitation on comment length.]

[Continued from previous comment.]

And don't try to use the audience's reaction as evidence that Obama was really referring to Palin.  Obama's audiences enthusiastically applaud every little remark he makes.  You know, because he's a celeberty, right?  That's what you guys say anyway.

And finally, not only has McCain used the phrase before but so has Obama.  So the phrase was okay for him to use before Palin was put on the ticket, but not now?  Sorry... that doesn't jibe.

This controversy was created by the right to distract everyone from the real issues of this election.  I can't blame them, it's about the only way they are going to win this one.  The Republican candidate certainly can't run on the accomplishments of the previous administration.

Moose, John Moore, a conservative agrees with you.. and I disagree with both of you.  In CONTEXT... the significant pause before the line and isolating the line like he did ONLY gives him cover.  But the line was fully intended to do exactly what it did... call Palin a Pig.  Obama's history with Hillary only reinforces the point of his misogynist behavior.

I will give  you this, he shot the finger at Hillary by scratching with his middle finger... again the isolating pauses... its called plausable deniability... like allowing the nastiest "diary" comments on the obama website... but saying out loud "leave the family's alone."

Surely you guys can see this.

Posted by: GM Roper at Thursday, September 11 2008 09:45 AM (1fjXG)

31 McCain has become quite the politician since he got his party's nomination... he has proven time and again that his strategy for winning is based on personal attacks and distracting people from the main issues
