The title of this article, "He Rises" was spoken by Gregory Peck in the movie Moby Dick. The whale was surfacing and Peck as Captain Ahab was about to meet his waterloo if you will forgive the mixing of fact and fiction. And so it is tonight, Barack Obama, freshman Senator from the streets of Chicago has been nominated as the Democratic Party's candidate for President of the United States. An historic occasion to be sure, a black man, nominated by a major political party. Many of us at one time or another had hoped it would be Colin Powell...but 'twas not to happen.
Obama will give his speech on stage with props made to look like a greek temple and evoke the feeling of already owning the White House for the next four (eight?) years. The narcissism inherent in this overly staged production is obvious to all but the most committed Obamabots. Their Messiah will recieve his crown tonight. Adoration of the multitudes to follow.

Obama's not exactly the great white.
Pip: That ain't no whale; that a great white god.
Captain Ahab: I'll follow him around the Horn, and around the Norway maelstrom, and around perdition's flames before I give him up.
Ishmael: [seeing Moby Dick for the first time] Is it real? Do you see it, too?
The Manxman, a sailor: We all see it. That don't make it real.
