My own opinon is that such a high muslim support of Obama had little to do with his position on Israel/Palestine, as they differ little from McCains, but more to do with the way in which Obama's middle name was used agianst him as if the false impression of him being a muslim was a smear. This immediately and obviously offended many in ther muslim communittyand they went for Obama. Their is also the issue of eroding civil liberties and targetting of Arab and south asain under the last repub adminstration. Finally much of the overtly narrow religious right wing of the Repub, those who divide Americans into "real" and not so real camp, the group Palin was picked to shore up, end up aleinating a good deal of moderates, jews as well as muslims for obvious reasons. And like much of trhe country muslims were fed up with Bush. That all of this goes over your head doesn't surprise me too much.

I don't remember McCain once using or supporting the use of Obama's middle name to smear him.  Maybe you can enlighten us. 

However, I do remember Obama getting ready to make a speech and his handlers, while he was right there, forced two Muslim girls to move so that they wouldn't be in the picture behind him.  Why no offense to that?

No but Obama's link to Islam was used by many supporters of McCain, which served, obviously, to alienate many in the muslim communitty. 5 If I remember the reason ISNA and other organsation gave for their 2000 endorsement of the Bush ticket, a decision of grotesque stupidity, was that the Gore/Lieberman ticket was running to the right of Bush/Cheney on the issue of Israel, which was, incidentally true. Nonetheless, given the Bush/Cheney record particulalry on civil liberties, which negatively affected Arabs and Muslims in the US, it was a decision they lived down.
