Counter-intuitive Thoughts on Conservative Victory

The Mainstream Media is trumpeting a massive defeat for the Republican Party.  Of course, this is in part an attempt by the MSM to influence that outcome by setting up expectations.  Adding to the predictions has been a lackadaisical performance by the Republicans.  Did I say "lackadaisical?" change that to "unbelievably poor" performance by the Republicans.

Republicans were swept into power in 1994 on a platform of the Contract with America.  A modest contract that promised reform:

  • FIRST, require all laws that apply to the rest of the country also apply equally to the Congress;
  • SECOND, select a major, independent auditing firm to conduct a comprehensive audit of Congress for waste, fraud or abuse;
  • THIRD, cut the number of House committees, and cut committee staff by one-third;
  • FOURTH, limit the terms of all committee chairs;
  • FIFTH, ban the casting of proxy votes in committee;
  • SIXTH, require committee meetings to be open to the public;
  • SEVENTH, require a three-fifths majority vote to pass a tax increase;
  • EIGHTH, guarantee an honest accounting of our Federal Budget by implementing zero base-line budgeting.

So, how did they do.  Well, congress is still privileged, waste and fraud run rampant and has been increased since the Democrats took back the reigns of power in '06.  In fact, the election of  a majority of Liberal Democrats and their fellows has altered the process.  The current House and House Leadership is rife with incompetence and self serving rules.  In fact, it can be said that this is literally a "do nothing" congress.

Given the above I am convinced that conservatives must act, must act swiftly and must act strongly if they are to have any effect on the outcome of the coming election and on future elections.

Future elections I hear you say?  What future if the Democrats win all three branches of government.  And that is precisely the kind of rhetoric that has cost the conservative movement in the past and will continue to nail it in the future.

The problem, as I see it, is that we are playing with the Democrat's rules.  This has to stop if we are to have any chance at electing our own.  We can't run against diversity and multiculturalism, we have to run for merit and selection based on criteria blind to color and culture, religion and national origin.  We can't run against spending, we have to run for fiscal responsibility and the debt that our children will owe.  We can't run against surrender to the terrorists, we have to run for a strong military with a strong, forceful foreign policy that very clearly repeats Theodore Roosevelt's dictum "Speak softly and carry a big stick."  Our enemies must know that we will not hesitate to use the stick when words fail.  And we must get across to the world that we will have no patience with delay and deceit; Taqiyya be damned. If someone says they will do something, we will damn well expect it to be done without any unnecessary delay.

This stance of conservative principles has no chance in a strictly partisan environment with the populace seemingly leaning towards Democrats.  But there is hope on the horizon, why not work to elect conservative Republicans AND Democrats? Conservatives don't have to belong to a party, they can be independent, and should be... we are likely the largest single group of voters out there, when we get out and vote.  Thus, if neither party can take us for granted, we can push for conservative nominee's of both parties and get them elected.  I suspect that if the majority of congress critters Congressmen and Senators don't pay attention to us for two very major reasons.  First, Democrats don't pay attention to conservatives for the most part because they know we typically vote Republican.  Secondly, Republicans don't pay attention to conservatives for the most part because they know we typically vote Republican.  That has to stop.

Many is the pundit that has observed that the black vote goes 90% to Democrats and the Democrats pay attention only at election time.  More than one (pundit) has noted that if the Blacks withheld their vote, even once, than both Parties would scramble for the Black vote.

I propose not that we withhold our vote, but that we concentrate on finding solid conservative leaders regardless of which party and push like hell to get them elected.  Only when both political parties realize that conservatism is a force to be reckoned with will we be again paid attention to.

And, if I need to say it, it is not our conservative values that have to be sold, those values are held by the majority of Americans.  It's not like we have to push unrealistic ideas such as crippling our economy to lower so called greenhouse gasses.

One or two election cycles with solid conservative leaders running should be enough to tip the scales.  But this will require blood, sweat and tears.  We have to sell the idea that our platform is the best for American interests. We have to push for more oil drilling and nuclear energy and jab a stick in the eyes of the OPEC nations.  We have to show America how earmarks hurt them and how most current members of congress care about one thing and one thing only, getting their fat butts re-elected.  We need tax reform such as perhaps ending withholding so that every body has to send a check to the IRS every payday.  When people have to write their own checks every month the country will rise up against reckless earmarks and extravagant spending.

In short, we need a new way of looking at the the big picture.  Are we Conservatives first, or are we Democrats and Republicans first and we'll compromise on the rest.  I suggest we Reclaim Conservatism from the Republican party and launch an all out political battle to elect true conservatives to office.  Get them going after our vote and most of our troubles will be significantly reduced, or fade away.

Let me begin with this assertion: since 1900, no candidate has ever achieved the White House who did not appeal to the political center.  The problem with the GOP isn’t ideas; it is rather communicating those ideas in a cogent way.  In short, it is a lack of leadership.

There are plenty of good people in the Republican House and Senate, but none of them has stepped to the fore.  None of them is using the Bully Pulpit of the Press.  When republicans do step up to the microphone, they utter idiotic claptrap that no one with a lick of sense can credit.  For example, the other day Kay Bailey-Hutcheson had the temerity to suggest the United States government needs to assist Mexico with their narco-terrorism problem along the border cities.  She wants to give high-tech weapons and other equipment to the Federalés and bolster Border Patrol and DEA assets along the border.  In the first instance, giving high-tech anything to the Mexican authorities is a guarantee the equipment loaned or sold will end up in the hands of gangsters (and used against our police officials).  Second, it is hard to convince (mostly Hispanic) BP and DEA officers to do their jobs when Bush and Company locked up two officers on trumped-up charges.  I can’t imagine motivation is very high in that camp.

I see no one in the GOP camp standing up to demonstrate what a complete idiot people like Senator Ben Cardin (D, MD) is on such issues as gasoline cost and domestic drilling.  I see no one looking into the camera with a scholarly look and saying, “ America – if you elect a Democratic President, and you allow Democrats to maintain control of both houses of Congress, do not later complain about high taxes, or the cost of commodities, or Muslim extremists running around inside this country with impunity.  Not one Republican has explained how increased taxes on business will equate to increased costs for goods and services, or demonstrating how government will tax expensive commodities at a higher rate.

Not one Republican official has stood up to the idiocy of the black lobby, or challenged leading Democrats to explain how government dependency has helped even one citizen of color succeed in life.  Not one Republican has told the truth about NCLB, and not one Republican has suggested our entire education is horribly broken or offered a constructive “way out.”  To be fair though, Republicans have almost completely bought in to the PC crowd . . . and this means in essence, only a liberal socialist can ever be correct about anything.

If the GOP loses the 2008 election . . . it deserves to lose.  If this country elects an Obama, then it will no doubt deserve whatever happens – which I don’t think is going to be pretty.  But the answer to your initial question is self-evident, I believe.  Any Republic who allows the press to get away with its suppositions is NOT a leader.  Finally, we need to build up the GOP, increase the party’s attraction to a wider range of people.  This simply isn’t possible without quality ideas and people who can communicate those ideas.

When the two best GOP spokesmen are GM and Mustang, then the assertion that we are likely to fall into the Obama Free Fall, which - I suspect - will make Jimmy (Please Go Away) Carter's term look like a walk in the sun, looks like it will "happen".  Americans want Big Govt and Big Daddy/Mommy to take care of them.  My granddaughter, age four, will going to Pre-K (half day) in Sept.  The school gives "free" breakfast and lunch to all the rascals who attend.  'Scuse, me?  "Free"?  I am not Dr. Thomas Sowell, but I know this IS bullshit.

Too bad GOP pols do not have the gumption to speak simply and straightforward.  There ought be gauntlets all over the place...having challenged the Dems/Progressives/Pink Ladies.

Note: For a notion of just how America is going now, read Alastair Horne's TO LOSE A BATTLE.  Just read the first few chapters which describe what was going on in France in the years just before WW II and discover how very much is parallel to the USA today.  It was published in 1969 and I've heard no one tout the book.  One of my few original ideas.

5 While you are totally correct, and I agree with you -- you fail in the same way I and most of blogosphere fails.

To name the names of Conservatives who are running for Congress in your district, or your state.

Too much media focus on the President/ King, not enough on the many others who must agree to get laws passed.

But Congress folk are boring, and there are so many of them ... and I don't think anybody is running against half-corrupt Jerry Lewis in CA.

But the failure of Conservatives to run in the primaries is the big failure.

How can you call them a 'do nothing congress'?

They have doubled the price of oil.

They have crashed the housing market.

They have started the unemployment rate on a rise.

They have installed the most unethical leadership in history.

They came close, and still may make it, to crashing the stock market.

They are talking about and will surrender to the terrorists at the first chance, no matter that millions will die. (ref Vietnam for deaths (3-5 million) after the war was won and they still surrendered)

'A do nothing congress'? They have set the country back a hundred years financially and racially in 16 months. That is some type of record I'm sure.

Sarah Palin has deliberately left the question as to whether or not she will run in 2012 open. For those who believe a bid for the GOP nomination is still a possibility for her, The Arizona Republic provides women’s chef coats some further evidence: after months of rumors, Palin may have purchased a house in Scotsdale, Arizona. The terms of the deal hide chef coats the identity of the owner, and when the attorney listed on the property records, Alan Kierman, was asked if Palin was the buyer, his response was an intriguing "no comment." 19 Electro Acupuncture has increasingly been discussed like a wonderful home-based pain management tool. What options are available to pain sufferers and just how whenever they choose the one the most suitable for them?

acupuncture infertility is defined as a system whereby a small electric energy is sent to meridian points in your body, either with or without needles. Acupuncturists often use needles inserted into the skin, with electrodes connecting many of the needles to some small low voltage source of electrical current. However, this is not a house remedy and for that reason will not be discussed here. The home-use electro-acupuncture devices include Acupen, Acupuncture Pen, TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation), and Aculife.
