Dewitt of the Dodgers hit an inside the park home run on Tuesday to beat the Mets.

Finally, I took some time off and went to the Braves-Padres game last night.  Tim Hudson got the win, but came close to ejection when he was called for a balk that wasn't a balk.  He wasn't standing on the pitching rubber.  Greg Norton, who was just acquired Monday from the Mariners, got a pinch-hit single with the bases loaded to drive in the winning runs.

2 Braves just sweeped the Padres to win all six straight at the home stand.

3 The DeWitt ITPHR is the highlight of the season so far. The night before, he hit his first ML HR and was ignored the the fellows in the dugout...until they all jumped up and mobbed him.

Sigh. Furcal to the DL for a sprained sacro-iliac.

4 The Sox better pick up and get with it is all I can say... I've not been impressed with their last few games and I'm a Red Sox fan!

5 Wow. Three hr's in the sixth today against Ben Sheets of the Brewers.
He's only given up three hr's in a game five times.

What kind of idiots live in the area of McAllen, Texas?

McAllen, Texas — Even though small independent baseball leagues notoriously try todraw fans with promotions like "vasectomy night" and "midget wrestling," two teams had good reasons to swap a right-handed pitcher for 10 bats.

7 Well, this one does... but idiot?  Nah, just your average Red Sox fan.

Posted by: GM Roper at Saturday, May 24 2008 12:06 PM (1fjXG)

8 Oh, and Woodster, you need to brush up on your reading skills.  The article was reported from McAllen, but occured between Canada and Laredo, a town about 150 miles up the border from me.

9 Boston drops 6 road games... ending up one game behind Tampa Bay... TAMPA BAY???? What the hell is this world coming to!

10 The Red Sox have had a tough time with the Cincinnatti Reds before finally beating them.  The only thing giving me any hope at all is how bad the Yankees are playing.

11 Just back from 4 days camping in the Sierra. Looked forward every night for the atmospherics to change so I could pick up L.A. radio stations to get the Dodger scores:

Thurs:  9-0 Padres
Friday: 5-0 Tigers
Sat:     12-7 Tigers
Sun:     5-4 Tigers

The Tigers. How could we get swept by the bleedin' Tigers?

Posted by: jim hitchcock at Wednesday, June 18 2008 06:15 PM (Ypm74)

12 Jim, thats how I felt for the short period of time that Tampa Bay was on top.... TAMPA BAY?

Posted by: GM Roper at Wednesday, June 18 2008 08:32 PM (S60yG)

13 C'mon, Chipper...keep the Avg. above .400. It's time for mean old Ted WIlliam's record to fall.

The Dodgers were held hitless and won the game.  How often does that happen?  Jim Hitchcock should be pleased.

LA Dodgers 1, LA Angels 0  Box Score

Posted by: Woody at Sunday, June 29 2008 05:21 PM (Eb/8J)

15 Not very often. I was camping in the Sierra and went to the car to pick up an L.A. news station to get the scores...the game was in the eight inning...a half hour later, it was a done deal.

Posted by: jim hitchcock at Monday, June 30 2008 01:14 PM (Ypm74)

16 Man, the Red Sox are sure being bedeviled by the (no longer Devil) Rays. What a weird season.

Posted by: jim hitchcock at Thursday, July 03 2008 09:44 AM (Ypm74)

17 Rafael Furcal (current BA .366) to be out two months or more following imminent back surgery to relieve pressure on a disc.
Grim news.

Jim, it is so hard to believe that the rays are doing so well this year.  I'm in shock as I noted in comment number 12.  TAMPA BAY????

There is, however some satisfaction in watching the dodgers and atlanta in the same boat as me... Winkin' Blinkin' and Nod!  I'm Nod!

Posted by: GM Roper at Thursday, July 03 2008 05:41 PM (S60yG)

19 Sox are up 2 runs over the Yankees in the 1st... It won't cure my cold, but it is something...

Posted by: GM Roper at Thursday, July 03 2008 05:42 PM (S60yG)

20 The difference is the Dodgers are only a game and half out. Damn D-Backs scored 4 runs in the bottom of the ninth to edge the Brewers. Drat.

Posted by: jim hitchcock at Thursday, July 03 2008 05:47 PM (Ypm74)

21 Oh, and take care of that cold

Posted by: jim hitchcock at Thursday, July 03 2008 05:48 PM (Ypm74)

22 The cold has me down... I'm taking today off and staying in bed.. first sick day I"ve taken this year and on this day of all days.  Happy Birthday America!

Posted by: GM Roper at Friday, July 04 2008 07:27 AM (S60yG)

23 The Red Sox have taken two from the yankees and maybe three with today's game.  Tampa Bay has dropped a half game so maybe they  will do like they did last time.  They've been very good, but also pretty inconsistent as have the sox.  Damon got hurt in a VERY odd play.

Posted by: GM Roper at Saturday, July 05 2008 10:30 AM (S60yG)

24 Today's game was 2-1 in favor of the Yanks... only the last two innings were even close to interesting though.

Posted by: GM Roper at Saturday, July 05 2008 06:11 PM (S60yG)

Posted by: Woody at Sunday, July 06 2008 10:02 AM (Eb/8J)

26 Damn, the Sox lost a squeeker to the Yanks last night in extra innings.  My wife says it is my fault because I wasn't rooting hard enough.  Maybe she's right, but in the Red Sox wins over the Yanks on Thursday and Friday nights I was in bed with a nasty cold and didn't even watch the games.  Do you suppose Boston does better when they don't have me to root for the team?  Sigh!!!!

Posted by: GM Roper at Monday, July 07 2008 06:13 AM (S60yG)

27 I'm thinking a little payback may be in order in L.A. tonight, Woody.

Posted by: jim hitchcock at Monday, July 07 2008 02:13 PM (7bEJp)

28 The Dodgers almost had a perfect game.  Eleven strikeouts.  That was some pitching.

Posted by: Woody at Tuesday, July 08 2008 08:39 AM (Eb/8J)

29 Yeah, I was getting rather nervous come the eighth inning

Posted by: jim hitchcock at Tuesday, July 08 2008 09:48 AM (7bEJp)

30 Well, look at it this way, Woody...the Braves outscored the Dodgers 10-8 in the series

Posted by: jim hitchcock at Thursday, July 10 2008 02:09 PM (7bEJp)

31 Hmmm...during a 6th inning pitching change last night, Manny Ramirez was photographed inside the Green Monster talking on a cellphone.

The perfect baseball accessory...
